“The Acolyte,” an upcoming “Star Wars” Disney+ series, will draw from the non-canon “Legends” expanded universe, Vanity Fair reports.
“The Acolyte” will be set during the High Republic era, approximately 100 years before the events of the “Star Wars” films. The canon book series, “Star Wars: The High Republic” has already explored the era.
Leslye Headland, co-creator of “Russian Doll,” is in charge of the mystery thriller series, which will focus on the Dark Side of the Force and have a female main character. Headland told Vanity Fair that she knows the High Republic timeline “really well” and is a fan of Legends, a.k.a. the Expanded Universe, which was declared non-canon when Disney began working on “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”
Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm, also said Headland is a “gigantic” fan of “Star Wars.”
“What’s wonderful about Leslye is she knows it all,” Kennedy said. “I mean, she’s read a gazillion books inside the E.U. There are little bits and pieces that she’s drawing from that no one has explored yet in the onscreen storytelling.”
Though Legends is not canon, some elements from the old novels have been pulled into the new canon. A major example would be the reintroduction of Grand Admiral Thrawn in “Star Wars Rebels.”
What obscure “bits and pieces” of “Star Wars” Legends are you hoping to see in “The Acolyte” on Disney+? Let us know in the comments.

Just when you thought merchandise from Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge couldn’t get any more self-referencing and deep into lore, you’d be wrong! A new set of colored pencils we found at the Creature Stall in the Black Spire Outpost Market has a surprisingly deep connection to the lore around the stand.
Colored Pencil Set of 12 – $17.99
The colored pencil set comes in a cardboard tube with the Creature Stall logo and wordmark in both basic and Aurebesh. The insignia on the front bears the same design as the flag in front of the stall.
A Cast Member informed us that the flag is of the Amani tribe from Utapau. The Creature Stall is owned by Bina, who is of the Amani tribe and wrote Bina’s Guide to the Creatures of Batuu. He said the flag of the Amani tribe can also be seen in places in the Resistance Forest once in a while. And when it’s flown there, it means this area is protected by the Amani tribe and thus safe to pass.
The pencil case’s reverse has a faux leather strap with a button to snap shut.
We found these colored pencils at the Creature Stall within Black Spire Outpost Market in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland. Will you be adding this to your pencil case? Let us know in the comments below!
