New Walt Disney World Railroad Track Laid in Storybook Circus at Magic Kingdom

We getting steps closer to the Walt Disney World Railroad at Magic Kingdom reopening as new track is laid on either side of TRON Lightcycle / Run.

The Walt Disney World Railroad closed in December 2018 as construction on TRON Lightcycle / Run began.

Railroad tracks were removed from the construction site, as well as through the Storybook Circus station.

Today, crew members were laying new track. The horizontal sleepers were already lined up from the edge of the construction site to the station.

The rails had yet to be installed.

The crew members were working right next to the station this morning.

We could see the yellow track laying machine further down.

Through the empty station, we caught more glimpses of the construction vehicles and crew members at work.

Last week, crews laid new track behind Space Mountain, filling in a gap.

At the other end of the station, we got a better view of the laying machine.

There was also a green construction vehicle next to the tracks.

Much of the Walt Disney World Railroad track was replaced last year and Engine 1, the Walter E. Disney, was refurbished. The refurbished engine has been used to test the new track throughout Magic Kingdom, so we may see it here at Storybook Circus soon.

Meanwhile, crew members continue to work on the Walt Disney World Railroad tunnel that will run below TRON Lightcycle / Run.

Disney World CHANGES How Annual Passholders Get Discounts

Getting your Annual Passholder discounts in Disney World is a little DIFFERENT these days.

Annual Pass

Annual Passholders can generally get discounts of up to 20% on dining, merchandise, and certain activities. If you’re a Passholder, you may have been used to showing your physical Annual Passholder card to get those discounts while shopping in the parks, but now things have CHANGED.

Annual Passholders are now required to show a form of identification along with the portion of the My Disney Experience app that shows they are an Annual Passholder (instead of their physical Passholder card) in order to get some of their discounts.

50th Anniversary Annual Passholder Magnet

According to a Cast Member we spoke with, some individuals were sending screenshots and utilizing other people’s passes in order to take advantage of the discounts, which is why this new policy is being put in place.

Passholder Sign

To find your Annual Pass through the My Disney Experience app, tap the portion that shows 3 horizontal lines all the way at the bottom right of the screen.

You’ll then select Tickets and Passes…

My Disney Experience App

…and find your Annual Pass with your name on it, the pass type, and the expiration date. That’s what you’ll need to show to get your discount.

Find Your Pass

As this new policy is implemented, you may see variations throughout the parks, so just keep that in mind. Be sure to come prepared with your My Disney Experience app ready at check-out so you can make your check-out process run smoothly!

50th Anniversary designs for Annual Passes!

If you’re paying the big bucks for an Annual Pass, you should do your best to get the most out of it, so don’t forget to ask about those discounts at merchandise and dining locations throughout Disney World. The worst they say is “no.” The best they say is “yes” and you can save some $$$!

We’re constantly keeping track of any and all Annual Passholder news. To see our page full of information about dining discounts for Annual Passholders you can click here, or you can click here to learn about the Annual Passholder program as a whole and what other perks Passholders get.

Did You Know that Passholders Can Get Access to Exclusive Merchandise?

PSA 🚨 There’s a POG SLUSHY In Disneyland!

Does anyone else remember the great POG juice crisis of 2021? It’s not something that’s easy for us to forget here at DFB!

Oh, POG Juice, how we love thee.

In case you missed it, the wonderfully delicious, refreshing, must-try POG juice went missing from Disney World in the summer and we were looking high and low to see what could have happened to this Disney delicacy. Luckily, it returned within a few months, but it was DIFFERENT. A new supplier rolled in and fans weren’t really sure if it did the POG juice legacy justice. It’s been a few months now and we’ve adjusted to being able to rely on finding POG juice in Disney once again — but, now Disneyland is UPPING the anty and we HAD to head over to give the newest FROZEN concoction a try!

Over at Galactic Grill in Disneyland Park, you can now find a POG SLUSH (!!). No, we’re NOT kidding around! You’ll find it on the menu as Passion Fruit, Orange, and Guava Slush and it’s exactly what it sounds like (PLUS, it comes with a glow cube!).

POG Slush

So, does the slushy stand up to its iced counterpart? Well, let’s just say that — if you’re a POG juice fan — you need to RUN here this summer! This frozen treat featured all those tropical and citrusy flavors just 10000x BETTER in the warm California sun!

What’s great about this slush is that it’s very simple, so you know exactly what you’re getting with it! It’s sweet without being too sweet and it’s very refreshing. Plus, don’t the tropical fruit juices in it just sound like summer?

If you’re not a fan of tropical flavors, maybe try something else.

Galactic Grill has released some other slushes in the past, like a Key Lime Pie Slush, but it’s no match for the POG Slush in our opinion! Of course, if you’re normally one to pass on POG juice (it’s okay, we still like you), then you’re probably not going to want to splurge on this one. Instead, you might want to try something else to cool off, like a Mint Julep from The Mint Julep Bar.

But, if the POG Slush sounds like something you NEED to try, head over to Galactic Grill in Disneyland and grab it for $10.99. And as always, make sure to keep reading DFB for more Disney food reviews!

We’ve Eaten at Every Disney Springs Restaurant. These Are the Best.

Disney Springs is much more than just a place to shop for expensive spirit jerseys.

Disney Springs

Head to Disney Springs for over 50 different restaurants — some of them are actually better than the ones in the parks! (Sorry, not sorry.) In our expert opinion, there are some restaurants that are without a doubt must-try-best-meal-ever level restaurants, so if you’re feeling overwhelmed by all the choices in Disney Springs, we’ve got you!

We’re breaking down our restaurant ratings into table service restaurants (where you generally need to make a reservation), counter service (no reservation required), and desserts! If you’re not sure where to eat in Disney Springs, we’re about to make your decision a whole lot easier.

Table Service Restaurants

5. Morimoto Asia

Morimoto Asia was created by Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto, and its menu features Pan Asian cuisines (Chinese, Japanese, and Korean options), including dim-sum style with small plates, meat plates, noodle bowls, and the extremely pricey (but delicious) Japanese A5 Wagyu Beef.

Morimoto Asia

If you step outside, you can also order from the Morimoto Asia Street Food counter for more pan-Asian options, without the whole table-service business. It’s a little less Disney and it can be expensive, but it’s great for a date night or upscale restaurant experience!

PROS:

  • It’s gorgeous (those chandeliers!)
  • Upscale experience
  • Quality Pan-Asian eats

CONS:

  • Expensive
  • Not for people who don’t like Pan-Asian cuisine
  • Not for kids or picky people

OVERALL: 9/10

Check out our full review of Morimoto Asia here!

4. Raglan Road

If you’re looking for a lively and authentic Irish pub atmosphere, look no further than Raglan Road. Not only can you catch live Irish music and dancing on select dates, but you can also choose from tasty Irish eats like fish and chips, bangers and mash, shepherd’s pie, bread pudding, and more.

Raglan Road

Even some of the interior of Raglan Road is authentically Irish, and by that we mean some of the bars and furniture were shipped directly from Ireland to Disney Springs. Finish off your meal with an Irish beer!

PROS:

  • Live Irish music
  • Authentic Irish food and atmosphere
  • Actually GOOD food

CONS:

  • It can get loud
  • Live music isn’t daily
  • You have to like Irish food

OVERALL: 9.5/10

Read our most recent review of Raglan Road here!

3. The BOATHOUSE

The BOATHOUSE is arguably the best place to go for seafood in Disney Springs! Choose from market fresh fish, Maine Lobster Tail, Shrimp & Andouille Mac & Cheese, and treat yourself to Key Lime Pie in a Mason Jar for dessert!

The BOATHOUSE

Next to The BOATHOUSE are the amphicar water cruises in vintage car “boats” as well as a water taxi and retro dream boats. Follow your night of waterfront seafood dining with a 20-minute guided tour of the lake on an amphicar!

PROS:

  • Amazing seafood
  • Feel like you’re eating seaside
  • Boat tours

CONS:

  • Very expensive (but hey, it’s lobster)
  • Not a quick restaurant
  • Desserts are meh

OVERALL: 10/10

Check out our most recent review of The BOATHOUSE here!

2. Wine Bar George

If you’re a wine-lover, head to Wine Bar George for over 130 choices of wine and unique small plates. The restaurant is led by Master Sommelier George Miliotes, and the staff is known for their extensive wine knowledge, so if you aren’t sure what wine to choose they will surely help you! You can dine on small plates most times of the day, but entrees are also served between 12PM to 3PM. Some of our favorite dishes include the Saganaki on Fire and Crispy Mac & Cheese Bites!

Wine Bar George

If you’re strapped for time, stop by The Basket at Wine Bar George — their attached counter service location. Grab a sandwich and wine slushie and be on your way!

PROS:

  • You want good wine? Go to Wine Bar George
  • Variety of small plates
  • All of it, literally all of it

CONS:

  • Entrees are not always available
  • Small plate prices can add up
  • Not super family-friendly

OVERALL: 10/10

Read our most recent review of Wine Bar George here!

1. Chef Art Smith’s Homecomin’

Chef Art Smith’s Homecomin’ is a table service restaurant in the Landing in Disney Springs. It was created by celebrity chef Art Smith, and the menu features Southern cuisine inspired by local Florida wildlife and agriculture. On the weekends you can even grab brunch!

Chef Art Smith’s Homecomin’

Get the classic Art’s Famous Fried Chicken or go for artisan options like the Thigh High Chicken Biscuits or the Cuban Sandwich. Don’t forget to splurge on a side of Cheddar Cheese Drop Biscuits or get the pineapple-banana Hummingbird Cake!

Thigh High Chicken Biscuits

As a popular restaurant, it’s not an easy task to snag a reservation at Homecomin’, and it’s not exactly the healthiest (or cheapest!) meal you can find in Disney Springs. Still, if you’re looking for a comforting and filling meal, this is it!

PROS:

  • Pure comfort food
  • Sustainable, locally-sourced ingredients
  • You won’t leave hungry

CONS:

  • Can be pricey (Art’s Famous Fried Chicken is $32!)
  • Heavy meal
  • Not the easiest for reservations

OVERALL: 10/10

Click here for our review of Homecomin’!

Counter Service Restaurants

5. Polite Pig

Polite Pig is the home of modern, Florida-inspired barbecue, with wood-fired, smoked, and grilled options. Visit the Bourbon Bar to choose from over 50 different kinds of bourbon, or choose from their extensive variety of craft beers available on tap.

The Polite Pig

The Hop Salt Pretzel with beer cheese fondue is a delicious way to start your meal, followed by options like the Low & Slow Brisket, Burnt Ends BBQ Meatballs, Fried Chicken, and plenty more. On a busy day, you might find a long line to order your food, but there is plenty of space for indoor and outdoor seating.

PROS:

  • Actually GOOD BBQ
  • Tasty appetizers
  • Bourbon Bar

CONS:

  • Expensive for quick service
  • LONG lines
  • Not for people who hate barbecue

OVERALL: 7.5/10

Check out our review of the newest menu item at the Polite Pig!

4. Cookes of Dublin

If you can’t get a reservation at Raglan Road, visit the Irish quick service spot known as Cookes of Dublin. Here you can enjoy the Famous Fish and Chips and Dubliner Irish Cheese & Bacon Soup as well as burgers, sandwiches, and desserts.

Cookes of Dublin

The menu isn’t super extensive but you can get pub food that won’t take all day! But keep in mind that this isn’t the place for people who don’t like Irish food or who are looking for a light meal.

PROS:

  • Pub food that won’t take all day
  • Raglan Road fans who want quick food
  • Comfort food

CONS:

  • Lots of heavy food
  • Limited menu
  • Not for people who hate Irish food

OVERALL: 8/10

Here’s our review of Cookes of Dublin!

3. Earl of Sandwich

Earl of Sandwich is a popular chain restaurant that serves quick sandwiches, wraps, and salads. It’s known for being affordable but since it’s also popular, it tends to have quite a long line.

Earl of Sandwich

There’s tons of seating and the food is easy to take on the go, but you might also find an Earl of Sandwich in your hometown, so it’s not super unique.

PROS:

  • Affordable sandwiches
  • Tons of seating
  • Tasty and easy to take on the go

CONS:

  • Not unique to Disney World
  • VERY long lines at times
  • Limited to mostly sandwiches (hence the name)

OVERALL: 8.5/10

Check our our most recent review of Earl of Sandwich here.

2. D-Luxe Burger

D-Luxe Burger is a quick-service burger joint that serves what could very well be some of the best burgers in Disney World. Choose from gourmet burger flavors like the Dublin Burger, the Barbecued Burger, the El Diablo Burger, and more, and grab an artisanal gelato shake with flavors like s’mores, strawberry, and cookies ‘n cream!

D-Luxe Burger

You can also order freshly-cut fries, and if sauce is your thing, you can choose from several housemade dipping sauces for your fries! If you’re looking for a GOOD burger in Disney World, D-Luxe is the place to visit.

PROS:

  • Delicious burgers that aren’t typical quick-service Disney burgers
  • You’ll leave FULL
  • Milkshake options

CONS:

  • You have to like burgers
  • Not a table service environment
  • Not the healthiest menu

OVERALL: 9/10

Find out what D-Luxe Burger you should add to your must-try list!

1. Chicken Guy!

Chicken Guy! is Guy Fieri’s quick-service chicken restaurant, where the main feature (besides chicken, obvi) is the sauce. This restaurant offers 22 different dipping sauces to choose from! You can get usual sauce flavors like buffalo, buttermilk ranch, and honey mustard, but why not step out of your comfort zone to try wasabi honey, bourbon brown sugar BBQ, spicy mayo, sweet sriracha BBQ, and more?

Chicken Guy!

So what are you actually dipping into your sauce? Grab an order of chicken tenders or try a signature chicken sandwich, and don’t forget to order fries covered in the Chicken Guy!’s signature seasoning!

PROS:

  • For sauce people
  • Picky eaters can enjoy it
  • Quick service and reasonable prices

CONS:

  • Not exactly adventurous
  • Very limited seating
  • Can have a very long line

OVERALL: 9/10

Here’s our FULL review of Chicken Guy!

Snacks/Dessert

3. The Ganachery

The Ganachery is actually tied with the next restaurant so we’re counting them down the same! This gourmet chocolate shop serves house-made ganache, truffles, and chocolate bars, and guests can even watch the chocolatiers making chocolates.

The Ganachery

You can also find limited-time and seasonal offerings like drinking booze out of a chocolate bunny (yes, for real), so if you’re a big chocolate person you might want to make The Ganachery a must-visit.

PROS:

  • Perfect for chocolate fans
  • Watch your chocolate being made!
  • Limited-time menu options

CONS:

  • Pricey
  • Another sweet shop in Disney Springs
  • Not a chocolate person? Skip this spot

OVERALL: 8/10

Check out the most recent (Star Wars-themed) treat!

3. Ghirardelli Soda Fountain and Chocolate Shop

Ghirardelli is such a delicious dessert spot that you can literally SMELL it from a distance. We’re not kidding — the smell from Ghirardelli is all around the building and no one is complaining. It doesn’t have a totally groundbreaking menu, but you can order tasty chocolate squares, sundaes, shakes, cocoa drinks, and more.

Ghirardelli Soda Fountain and Chocolate Shop

This sweets shop features both indoor and outdoor patio seating, but it CAN get crowded at times. Still, the smell alone might tempt you into a visit.

PROS:

  • Smells good
  • Delicious ice cream
  • Tons of seating

CONS:

  • It’s all about the sweets here
  • Can be crowded
  • Not super adventurous

OVERALL: 8/10

Here are the MUST-EAT sundaes at Ghiradelli!

2. Vivoli il Gelato

Vivoli il Gelato is where you can get authentic gelato at a family-run gelateria, and they’re willing to take risks with special temporary offerings. From the regular menu, you can order gelato, fruity sorbetto, milkshakes, floats, cannolis, and more!

Vivoli il Gelato

Although the menu can be pricey, the limited-edition offerings are sometimes worth a try because of how unique and interesting they are. Plus, we’re talking authentic Italian gelato! How can you say no?

PROS:

  • Authentic Italian
  • TONS of menu options
  • They take risks

CONS:

  • Can be expensive
  • No free water
  • Limited to gelato-type sweets

OVERALL: 8.5/10

Here’s our most recent review of a Vivoli il Gelato treat!

1. Gideon’s Bakehouse

Gideon’s Bakehouse is a local Orlando bakery that opened its second and flagship location in Disney Springs, and it has been a hugely popular spot ever since. They serve the most ginormous cookies you’ve probably ever seen, plus other sweet treats with special monthly offerings. You can also get a slice of cake and sip a tasty cold brew!

Gideon’s Bakehouse

The inside of Gideon’s is small and the demand is high, so you’ll generally find a LONG line to enter the store. If it’s later in the day, you may find a virtual queue with a 2+ hour wait! But the cookies, the spooky vibe, and the overall theming are WORTH the wait.

PROS:

  • Amazing desserts
  • Rotating menu options
  • Spooky theming

CONS:

  • LONG WAIT
  • Tiny store
  • GIANT cookies and only sweet treats

OVERALL: 10/10

Click here to meet some of the mysterious characters from Gideon’s Bakehouse!

Bonus

Salt & Straw

Salt & Straw is the newest ice cream spot in Disney Springs, serving quite possibly the funkiest ice cream flavors you will ever taste. We’re talking flavors like Arbequina Olive Oil, Freckled Mint Chocolate Chip, Bottomless Limes!, and Adventurous Llamanaut, among many others.

Salt & Straw in Disney Springs

Though they do serve some typical ice cream flavors, this isn’t the best spot for picky eaters, and there’s no seating inside or outside. But still, if you want to step out of your ice cream comfort zone, head to Salt & Straw.

PROS:

  • Truly unique ice cream flavors
  • Incredible ice cream
  • You can take a pint home!

CONS:

  • Weird flavors
  • No seating
  • No fancy sundaes

Read our review of Salt & Straw here!

VIDEO: Possible Ride Vehicle Fire Shuts Down Radiator Springs Racers in Cars Land at Disney California Adventure

Last night around 8:30 p.m. PT, Radiator Springs Racers went down for a “temporary closure” before ultimately closing for the night at Disney California Adventure, due to a possible ride vehicle fire. Eyewitnesses reported a ride vehicle stopping right after the finish line, with the guests onboard yelling to be let off the ride.

The back bumper was misaligned, and black smoke was coming from the vehicle. Other guests reported the smell of burning rubber. Cast Members quickly evacuated the guests who were in the smoking vehicle.

A reader who witnessed the incident sent us a video, which you can watch below.

It’s unknown if the possible ride vehicle fire will affect operations today as the park is not open yet. Stay tuned for updates as we learn more information.
