One Disney Celebrity Just Added “Best Prom Date” to Their List of Qualifications

Here at DFB, we like to keep up with some of our favorite Disney celebrities.

Magic Kingdom

Whether they’re heading to the parks, starting new business ventures, or making guest appearances in our favorite shows and movies, we like to know what’s going on. But this week, we were caught completely off guard when we learned a fun fact about a Disney star that we didn’t know. Apparently, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is the “best prom date!”

A few days ago, Instagram user @smilesweetsraccoon posted a series of photos from her prom. Like any other teen, she was dressed in her formal best for the occasion, but the thing that drew the attention of many was her date for the evening — a cardboard cutout of Dwayne Johnson! And just a few days later, The Rock actually shared the photos on his own Instagram account.

The caption says that The Rock is the “best date a person could ask for,” and honestly, we have to agree! Based on the pictures alone, it’s clear that he dressed up nice for the occasion, posed for pictures, and even hung out with his date’s friends. You couldn’t ask for anything better! 😉

We love watching celebrities interact with their followers in these fun and unique ways, and this just made us even bigger fans of The Rock! (As if we weren’t already after his performances in Jungle Cruise and Moana!)

PHOTOS, VIDEO: Tour The First Walt Disney World Store in Orlando, Including Vacation Club Discovery Station

The first Walt Disney World Store has opened under the Hollywood Plaza parking garage in Orlando, Florida.

The store is beneath the new art installation currently advertising the 50th anniversary of Walt Disney World.

Inside, the store’s ceiling is lined with images of Walt Disney World icons in EARidescent colors for “The Most Magical Celebration on Earth.”

50th anniversary merchandise is on display at the front.

There are two circles of lights, with a larger lighting fixture made of several orbs at the center.

The orbs resemble exploding fireworks.

The walls are white, with built-in shelves. The shelving units are light brown wood and each display has a different word above it. Specific franchises, like Disney Princess, Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars are labeled.

“Home,” “sip,” “yum,” “cozy,” and “cute” are above other shelves.

Mickey’s silhouette, “Walt Disney World,” and “The Most Magical Place on Earth” are in silver on the wall behind the register. Most of this wall is royal blue, but a section is brown set into a white unit.

The counters are brown wood with white tops.

One corner is the ticket center, with another royal blue wall displaying screens featuring various images from Walt Disney World.

The giant silhouette of Cinderella Castle is in silver on the wall.

These curved counters are also brown and white.

The ticket center also has a small seating area, with an orange bench and stools around white tables.

The Walt Disney World Store also houses the first-ever interactive Disney Vacation Club Virtual Discovery Station.

Guests can step inside a small room, with projections displaying different Disney Vacation Club destinations on the walls.

A tablet sits on a podium, and guests can use it to select different locations.

Watch our video tour of the Walt Disney World Store below.

Radiator Springs Racers Closed For Seventh Day in a Row at Disney California Adventure

Radiator Springs Racers will be closed for the seventh full day in a row at Disney California Adventure, after a possible ride vehicle fire.

In the evening on Tuesday, May 24, the ride stopped, and eyewitnesses saw smoke rising from a vehicle near the end of the attraction. Radiator Springs Racers remained closed for the rest of the day. Disney has kept the ride closed every day since. A Disneyland spokesperson told the Orange County Register that it would be closed indefinitely for testing. They also confirmed the issue was with a single vehicle.

The Average Cost to Fly to Disney World in July 2022

Your Disney World trip might be expensive enough as it is, but add on flight costs and you’re talking about some BIG expenses.

Will you be flying to Disney World this summer?

We’ve already covered why some flights might be cancelled this summer on a particular airline, how a deal could prevent some future cancellations from happening on another airline, and a look at some flight costs and why they’re so expensive. But if you’re flying to Disney World this July and wondering just how much that flight will cost you, we’ve crunched the numbers and have that answer right here!

Our Method

If you’ve read one of our average flight cost posts before then you’re likely familiar with our method. To all the newcomers, welcome! Let’s go through the basics of what we do here.

First, we use a specific method to calculate our average flight costs. Specifically, we look at the average cost to fly to Orlando International Airport (MCO) from a number of airports within the United States on a set number of airlines. We can’t analyze all airlines and all airports for this post or we’d be here for quite a while. Just keep in mind that the airport you fly from or the airline you like to use might NOT be on here.

Orlando International Airport

For our July dates, we looked for a trip departing on Thursday, July 22nd, and returning on Monday, July 25th. Based on flights from JFK to MCO, these dates featured some prices that were on the higher side as well as some on the cheaper side, and they avoided the July 4th holiday weekend.

Note that the price of your flight can vary a lot depending on when you choose to travel. Busy periods, holidays, and other things can all factor into flight cost.

©Google Flights

We used Google Flights to get our flight prices, except for Southwest Airlines flights, for which we used the Southwest Airlines website. Note that this is just a view into what flight costs can be. Costs can change daily or even within a matter of hours!

We only looked at basic ticket prices. Of course, flying and picking an airline to fly with can involve so much more than just the ticket cost. Things like being able to pick your seat, the number of included checked/carryon bags, and other factors can impact your decision. The right ticket or airline for you will depend on what you want!

Orlando International Airport

A few other notes:

  • We looked at the combination of the least expensive departing flight and least expensive returning flight. We then did the same thing for the most expensive departing and most expensive returning flights.
  • Our costs only feature the base cost. Tickets may be more expensive and feature taxes, fees, or other costs when you actually go to book.
  • The times of these flights, layover situation, and other details might not work for you.
  • For Southwest Airlines, we stuck to “Wanna Get Away” tickets when possible.
  • The actual cost of the flight might vary once you go to book it on the flight’s website or a separate travel website.
  • We only looked for flights that arrive on the same day as their departure (as much as possible).
  • All prices are for 1 person.

Alright, now let’s look at the prices!

New York (JFK or LaGuardia)

Southwest:

  • Cheapest combination of flights: $276.06 from LGA (taxes and fees add an additional $67.90)

Ready to Fly?

Overall, the average price to fly to Disney World in July of 2022 (using our specific method) ranged from about $510.50 on the cheaper side, up to about $1,156.41 in terms of the more expensive options.

That’s significantly more expensive than the costs we saw for May, but very close (within just a few dollars) of the flight costs for June.

Note that sometimes a notification did pop up on Google to say that the flight costs were “high” for some of the trips at this time, so things could be lower in the future.

©Google Flights

Also, as the situation with fuel prices develops, we could see further changes to flight costs.

Keep in mind that these are just averages and the actual cost of your flight could be very different. But hopefully these averages help you get a sense for what your flight may cost.

What Now?

You’re looking ahead and seeing your flight is going to cost more than you thought — what now? Well there are a number of things you can do. You could keep watching the flight costs (either through a service like Google or applications like Hopper), to see what the costs are like and how things may change.

Google also shows a price graph that’ll tell you average prices for flights on other dates. You could use this to potentially shift the dates of your trip to dates that are expected to be priced lower.

©Google Flights

You could consider utilizing credit card travel points (if you have any) to cover some of those flight costs, or adjust your budget or plans to make room for the higher flight costs. That might mean staying at a value resort instead of a deluxe or moderate resort, but if it helps you get to Disney World and afford the flights, then it might be worth the change!

The key here is just to be aware of what the costs will be so you can shift and adjust your plans as needed.

The 3 Most UNEXPECTED Things That Happened in Disney World in May

Whew, it’s been a busy month in Disney World!

Magic Kingdom!

From the booth announcements for the 2022 EPCOT International Food and Wine Festival to the coming opening of 2023 Walt Disney World vacation bookings, we’ve got a lot coming at us. But, there’s some news we DIDN’T see coming! Here are the three most unexpected things that happened at Disney World last month!

Genie+ Changes

Around mid-month, Disney announced a few little updates to the Genie+ service that certainly surprised us! Genie+ is the resort’s skip-the-line offering that lets guests pay $15 per person per day to skip the lines at many of the attractions in Disney World.

Expedition Everest

The service has seen a few changes since it launched last year but perhaps the BIGGEST was announced this month. Starting on June 8th, you will ONLY be able to buy Disney Genie+ on the DAY OF your visit to the parks. You will no longer be able to buy the service pre-arrival as a ticket add-on for dates remaining in 2022 and in 2023.

Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure

Additionally, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure in EPCOT had an unexpected announced change as well. From May 31st to August 7th, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure will no longer be an Individual Attraction Selection and instead will be an option with Genie+.

Click here to learn more about the Disney Genie CHANGE!

EPCOT Updates

The Remy update wasn’t the only surprise from EPCOT either. In fact, we got one of the first MAJOR EPCOT Transformation updates in a long time! Early in the month, Disney shared a first look at the Moana Journey of Water attraction coming to the park and they revealed the new gardens and festival areas that are coming to World Celebration.

Journey of Water Concept Art © Disney

EPCOT is set to get CommuniCore Plaza and CommuniCore Hall — areas designed with festivals in mind that will host a wide variety of experiences involving food demonstrations, live music, and an art gallery space.

©Disney

Within CommuniCore Hall, there will even be a new permanent character meet and greet location called “Mickey and Friends!” We were pretty happy to be surprised with such big news.

Want to learn more about the new areas? Click here!

Accidental MagicBand+ Release

Finally, the beginning of the month surprised us with an accidental release from Disney. We spotted the new MagicBand+ in stores at the beginning of May — before Disney was ready to release them and the new features were ready.

MagicBand+

The new iteration of MagicBands will feature interactive elements that react with different parts of the theme parks. The bands are set to be released at a later date, so it was certainly a surprise to find them early! When we purchased our band it was $29.99, but remember, prices could change when they are actually released. These bands also look and feel a bit different and can be recharged!

To see more about MagicBand+, click here!

As you can see, there were certainly a few surprises in May! But, hey, Disney World sure does like to keep us on our toes! We’re expecting more news drops in June and we can’t wait to see what the summer has in store in terms of unexpected news drops! As always, keep an eye on DFB so you don’t miss ANY of that surprising news.

And don’t forget that the EPCOT Food and Wine Festival is coming up soon. Check out everything that has been released about the festival for 2022 below!
