The Meta Quest virtual reality experience featuring ILMxLAB’s “Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge” has opened at the old site of NBA Experience in Disney Springs.
This experience will be temporarily available from May 2 through July 21, between noon at 10:00 p.m. daily.
The giant screen outside the building advertises the experience.
You can make an online reservation or join the walk-up line. You have to sign an online safety waiver.
When we arrived Monday afternoon, our wait was approximately 30 minutes.
The experience is free.
After entering, a Cast Member walks you to the queue room before you enter the game room.
The front room has billboards advertising Meta Quest and the game.
The queue room is circular and lit with purple light.
A mounted TV just advertises the experience and game more.
There’s a photo-op available while you wait, featuring characters from the game.
The actual VR experience is approximately eight minutes.
You are then led to a game room.
Guests get to try out the Meta Quest 2 headset as they play the first few minutes of “Star Wars: Tales From the Galaxy’s Edge.”
There are about three minutes of just dialogue setting up the mission. Then there are five minutes of free play. If you play fast enough, you can get into the wilds of Batuu overlooking Black Spire Outpost and fight a few bad guys.
At the end, we were asked to take a survey.
Guests also get some free swag.
We got two “Star Wars: Tales From the Galaxy’s Edge” postcards, a Meta Quest bottle, and a $25 Meta store credit. The full game costs $24.99 on the Meta Quest marketplace.
On May the 4th, they will be giving away a poster.
