Would we even be DFB if we weren’t trying new foods in Disney World all the time??

We’re here to take a look back at the BEST and the WORST things we ate in the month of April in Disney World, and that includes items from a new restaurant in EPCOT as well as a new ice cream shop in Disney Springs! Read all our reviews here.

The Best

Striped & Spiked Cold Brew — Boma — Flavors of Africa

We’re pretty sure we entered Zebra Dome Heaven when we tried the Striped & Spiked Cold Brew at Boma in Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge. With this new drink, Disney decided to take a Zebra Dome (aka a special Boma dessert) and put it on top of a cocktail made with Joffrey’s French Roast Cold Brew, South African Amarula Cream Liqueur, and Godiva Chocolate Liqueur, and it was topped with Whipped Cream and a Zebra Dome.

We’re not exaggerating when we say that we can’t stop thinking about this cocktail! It had a strong, rich coffee flavor and it wasn’t your typical sweet coffee drink — it was SO good. You can get it for $13 on the breakfast menu at Boma.

Pork Shank — Sanaa

We visited Sanaa for dinner and although pretty much everything was delicious there, the Pork Shank was our favorite entree of the night! It’s exclusive to the dinner menu, and it comes with Braised Pork, Chermoula-spiced Black-eyed Peas, and Pickled Mustard for $28.

The pork was cooked perfectly and it was incredibly tender and loaded with flavor, but nothing was too spicy. Are you a fan of meaty dishes? This is one to try!

Plant (Based) in Boot — The Mara

At The Mara in Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, we tried the Plant (Based) in Boot Plant for $6.99, and it was only available for one day (Earth Day!). This treat is made with Chocolate Spice Cake with Coconut Ganache in a Chocolate Boot, and it was a plant-based dessert! We really loved this treat, even more than we thought we would.

Though it was a bit odd to eat (we had to take a hands-on approach!) because it was kind of like a chocolate Easter bunny but filled with cake, we really enjoyed the experience of this treat. The chocolate was hard but delicious, and we LOVED the spice cake too! We’re really hoping Disney takes note and adds this treat to the menu all year.

Apple Pie Gelato Shake — Connections Cafe and Eatery

Connections Cafe and Eatery opened this month in EPCOT and we visited to try a bunch of new menu items. While we enjoyed several items on the menu, we LOVED the Apple Pie Gelato Shake for $7.29. This is basically like apple pie in a cup.

We enjoyed the texture of the shake from the graham cracker pieces inside, plus the strong cinnamon-sugar flavor was amazing. And while we didn’t taste fresh apples, it reminded us of what it might taste like if we blended a slice of apple pie. Seriously, SO GOOD.

Salt & Straw

We couldn’t just put one flavor of the new Salt & Straw ice cream shop in Disney Springs at the top of our list because the truth is– this ice cream changed how we think about ice cream. This shop is known for its funky ice cream flavors and we tried a number of flavors from Chocolate Gooey Brownie and Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough all the way to flavors like Arbequina Olive Oil, Honey Lavender, and even Vegan Mint Chocolate Chip!

We were SO impressed by this ice cream, and we loved that there were inventive and unique flavors. There are also accessible flavors for people who aren’t interested in some of the more unusual flavors, and you can also purchase pints of ice cream to take home!

The Worst

Spring Birds Nest Donut — Gasparilla Island Grill

We visited Gasparilla Island Grill in Disney’s Grand Floridian Hotel & Spa to try two new Easter treats, including the Spring Birds Nest Donut for $5.79. While this treat is really cute, it wasn’t great. We were happy with the pretzels, the icing, and the chocolate eggs, but when it came to the donut…oh no.

The chocolate donut reminded us of cardboard and it didn’t taste chocolatey either. Overall, even the tasty candy eggs couldn’t save this dry and flavorless treat.

Mama’s Italian Pasta with Chicken — Mama Melrose

In Disney’s Hollywood Studios, we visited Mama Melrose to try Mama’s Italian Pasta with Chicken for $24. This dish comes with Chicken with Spaghetti tossed with Roasted Garlic, Tomato, Fresh Basil, and Asiago-Herb Crostini. It wasn’t terrible, but it was mostly just…okay.

Our chicken was very dry and it didn’t have much flavor either. The pasta with garlic sauce was tasty, but it wasn’t enough to make up for the dry chicken.

Southwestern Burger — Connections Cafe and Eatery

And finally, the Southwestern Burger from Connections Cafe and Eatery left us a little disappointed. It comes with a Gourmet Beef Blend, Roasted Corn-Chipotle Salsa, Oaxaca Cheese Crema, Chamoy, Guacamole Spread, and a Toasted Bun for $12.99.

We wanted to taste more of the cheese, corn, and guacamole, but instead, we mostly tasted Chamoy, which gave us chipotle spread vibes. Truthfully, this was a better burger than most burgers you can get from many quick service spots around Disney World,  but we don’t think we’ll be ordering it again.
