Six delegates from Haiti participating in the Special Olympics, which are being hosted at Walt Disney World currently, have gone missing according to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office.
Central Florida news station WFTV9 reports that the six individuals turned in their room keys, but left behind their luggage before they disappeared. They were last seen at the ESPN Wide World of Sports at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, June 6.
Atione Joseph Mithon, 32; Nicholson Fontilus, 20; Peter Mianovich Berlus, 19; Anderson Petit-Frere, 18; Steevenson Jacquet, 24 and Oriol Jean, 18, are the missing persons. Five are not participating athletes but otherwise associated with the soccer team, and one has an intellectual disability.
Walt Disney World is cooperating with local and federal law enforcement and the Special Olympics to aid in the search.
“The well-being of these delegates is our foremost concern,” Special Olympics USA Games told WFTV, “Local authorities have indicated they have no reason to believe the health and safety of any of the individuals is at risk. To expand the reach and effectiveness of law enforcement’s efforts to locate these individuals, they have been reported as missing persons.”
This is a developing story. If you have information regarding the location of the missing persons, please contact law enforcement.
