When it comes to dining in Disney World, many guests will tell you that EPCOT is where it’s at — with a wide range of different cultures’ cuisine represented all on one spot, it’s a glutton’s paradise.

Between festivals, quick service spots, and even upscale table service restaurants, EPCOT essentially has it all. We recently revisited a table service restaurant we hadn’t been to since the parks first reopened to see what we were missing. So, come with us as we check out San Angel Inn Restaurante in Disney World!

Atmosphere

Talk about a restaurant with atmosphere — San Angel Inn is literally inside the Mexico Pyramid, but the vibes are made to feel like you’re in a Mexican city at night. 

The city sits upon a river with a nearby marketplace, and guests can watch passengers riding the Gran Fiesta Tour Starring the Three Caballeros go by as well.

We’ve found the tables to be pushed too close together on past visits, and that was pretty much the case on this visit as well. You’ll be getting pretty cozy with your neighbors during your meal here.

It’s important to note that depending on where you’re seated, you might not have an ideal experience. While most of the tables are located near the water, there are a few in a less than desirable location…by the bathrooms. You can always request a table near the water at check-in!

Menu

San Angel Inn is known for traditional Mexican eats, and in the past it hasn’t been our favorite — though we did enjoy our visit prior to this one. There are traditional appetizers like queso and guacamole…

…and for the entrees, there are plenty of dishes to choose from including fish tacos and Carne Asada.

And of course, there are a few desserts to choose from. We tried the Chocolate Fiesta Pyramid when it first debuted, and you can read all about that here.

Like most Disney World table service restaurants, kids can choose their own adventure when it comes to their meal, with appetizers…

…plus sides and desserts, too!

Of course, we can’t forget the drinks. San Angel Inn has an extensive margarita menu, and we’re certainly not complaining!

You can also order many of the tequilas featured at La Cava del Tequila, because they share the same drink menu!

Eats

So, how did this meal compare to our last at San Angel Inn? We started off with the San Angel Inn Margarita for $23. It’s made with Casa Dragones blanco tequila, La Favorite orange liqueur, agave nectar, freshly squeezed lime juice.

This is the restaurant’s upscale take on a classic lime margarita, served on the rocks with black ant salt rim in a metal shaker so you can pour it yourself. We thought it tasted like a super high quality margarita thanks to the Casa Dragones Tequila. It wasn’t too sweet, and was perfectly refreshing.

If you want a slightly fancier take on a classic margarita, check this one out. Otherwise, the menu has many more adventurous drinks!

If you go to a Mexican restaurant and don’t order chips, salsa, and queso, did it really happen? We’ll never know, because we always do. We tried the Totopos con Queso for $6, which comes with tortilla chips, queso, and salsa. 

The queso was creamy, mild, and super cheesy, while the salsa tasted fresh. We do wish the queso had a kick to it, but overall it was delicious. The chips weren’t too salty like you often find in restaurants either!

For our entree, we opted for the Tacos de Ribeye — and boy, are we glad we did. They’re served more fajita-style in a build-you-own-taco sort of way and come with plantains on the side.

The ribeye was cooked perfectly and was thinly sliced so it was super tender as well. The poblanos and onions added a nice flavor, plus the creamy Monterey Jack cheese just brought the whole dish together in the most incredible way.

The salsa verde served alongside the tacos had that kick we were looking for with the queso earlier in the meal, so if you’re averse to spices, keep that in mind.

The plantains were caramelized perfectly and had that sweetness you expect from plantains, but that was cut by the addition of the Cotija cheese. Together, the two made a wonderful pairing.

If you like tacos and ribeye, you might want to get these tacos. Though they are expensive at $30, they’re definitely shareable — especially after chips and queso!

After we had our fill of all the Tacos de Ribeye we could eat, we decided to order the Sweet Corn Ice Cream. It’s $9 for one scoop, making it possibly the most expensive ice cream per scoop in Disney World — but it was pretty good!

It’s made from just vanilla beans, milk, and corn, and essentially tastes like tortilla ice cream. It was heavily vanilla based, but there was also a pretty distinct corn flavor as well! At $9, though, we’d probably skip this dessert and opt for something elsewhere in the park instead.

Nosh or Not

Grab a table at San Angel Inn if…

• You’re looking for a great atmosphere and an escape from the heat.
• You want traditional Mexican cuisine like tacos and carne asada.
• You’re looking for a shareable meal and want to dine in the World Showcase.

Dine elsewhere if…

• You don’t like spending a lot of money on your tacos.
• You have trouble in dark or noisy restaurants.
• You want to actually sit outside.

Overall

In the past, we haven’t always enjoyed our meals at San Angel Inn, but this time was pleasantly different! The Tacos de Ribeye were amazing, and who doesn’t love a mid-day break for some queso and margs?! Not to mention, the theming really can’t be beat. It’s such an incredible atmosphere that exemplifies the Disney magic.
