Hotel Demolition and Long-Term Closures Continue at Disney World

A lot goes into planning a Disney World vacation. You’ve got to consider your budget, which hotel you want to stay at, which parks to visit, what snacks to try, and so much more.

Planning a vacation is no joke!

We’re here to help with all of that so that your vacation planning doesn’t overwhelm you. We’ve got a complete ranking of Disney’s hotels; reviews of ALL the snacks, treats, and restaurants; sample budgets; and tips for saving money along the way. But right now, we’re providing a word of WARNING. Take a look here to find out what’s NOT going to be available next week in Disney World!

Disney World is constantly updating rides, attractions, and hotels around the parks. Because of those updates, certain things might be unavailable for a while. Here’s a complete list of the things that are closed for refurbishment from June 26th through July 2nd.

Magic Kingdom

At Magic Kingdom, the Walt Disney World Railroad is closed. This attraction has been closed for a long time (we’re talking multiple years here), and there’s still no word on when it might reopen.

Walt Disney World Railroad Main Street Station

Because construction over in Tomorrowland on the upcoming TRON: Lightcycle Run coaster has interrupted the train tracks, the train can’t run right now. We don’t know when construction will finish, but we’re not expecting the railroad to reopen until that happens.

In addition, the Harmony Barber Shop is also closed in this park. This shop is a full-service barber shop located on Main Street, U.S.A. It’s set to reopen on July 31st, 2022! Reservations will open THIS WEEK on June 28th, so set your alarms if you want to get your hair cut in Magic Kingdom.

And finally, Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique is closed as well. Disney announced that it will reopen sometime this year, although we don’t have a more specific opening date yet.

Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique

Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique is a salon where kids can be transformed into princesses and princes! There are 3 locations in Disney World (all currently closed): at Magic Kingdom, Disney Springs, and Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort.

Hollywood Studios

Disney’s Hollywood Studios has a couple of closed attractions as well. Fantasmic! is still closed in this park, much to the dismay of many fans. But the good news is that Disney has revealed that it will reopen sometime in 2022! We’ll let you know as soon as a specific date is announced.

Fantasmic!

Another show, the Voyage of the Little Mermaid, is still closed.

Unlike Fantasmic!, however, this show doesn’t have a reopening timeline. Disney hasn’t let slip when or if the show will return to the park.

Water Parks

Since it’s been VERY hot in Orlando lately, you may want to visit one of Disney World’s water parks to cool off! If so, don’t choose Blizzard Beach. That water park is currently closed, and Disney hasn’t said when it will reopen.

Instead, head to Typhoon Lagoon, which is open now! You can find a wave pool, lazy river, waterslides, and plenty of snacks in this park.

Disney World Hotels

Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa

The very fancy Victoria & Albert’s restaurant is reopening at this hotel soon. It will officially open on July 28th, and guests can make their reservations NOW.

Changes have hit this restaurant, including menu, decor, and pricing updates. Make sure you check out the price increases before you reserve your spot so that you’re not caught off guard.

Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort

While you’re at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, you will likely see or hear some major construction going on. The hotel is demolishing the Spirit of Aloha dinner show building in order to make way for a new building that will house DVC villas and shopping and dining locations.

The Spirit of Aloha dinner show is no more.

This new building is expected to open in late 2024, so construction will be happening at this hotel for a long time yet.

That’s a lot of closures this week! But on the bright side, a few things have recently opened or reopened in Disney World as well! At the Grand Floridian, the new DVC Resort Studios are open, along with the updated DVC villas.

Resort Studios

And at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort, the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue is finally playing again! This dinner show reopened last week, on July 23rd, with an updated menu and show.
