It’s an unfortunate truth that wait times at Disney World can be LONG. Especially for the most popular attractions, guests will sometimes wait multiple hours before they get to ride. If you’d rather skip those long lines and head straight onto the rides, you can do that — for a price, of course.
Disney replaced FastPass+ with the new Disney Genie+ back in October of 2021. With the new system, guests can pay $15 per person per day to skip the lines at certain attractions. Since that time, we’ve seen several changes to the program. Now, another BIG change is coming to Genie+, and it goes into effect TODAY.
Beginning today, June 8th, you can no longer buy Disney Genie+ in advance of your trip. Previously, you could buy Genie+ in advance as a ticket add-on, as long as you applied it to every day of your trip. But starting today, you can only buy Genie+ on the day of your visit.
Now, if you want to buy Genie+ for one or all of your Disney World days, you’ll need to go on the My Disney Experience app on the day of your visit and purchase it — one day at a time. Even if you want it for every day of your trip, you’ll need to buy it individually for each day.
Genie+ becomes available each day starting at midnight, and we recommend buying it before 7AM, which is when you can start making Lightning Lane selections (choosing which rides you want to skip the line). Be ready to start making those Lightning Lane reservations right at 7AM for the best chance of getting the rides you want!
If you previously purchased Genie+ in advance for an upcoming trip, it is still applied to your tickets for that trip. You just won’t be able to buy Genie+ in advance anymore, starting today.
Also, note that Disney has only announced this change for Disney World — there’s no news yet on if or when it will also apply to Disneyland Resort.
To really take advantage of Genie+ and Pay-Per-Ride, it’s best to do some research ahead of time! We’ve got all kinds of guides and how-to posts, so take a look at a few of these before your visit:
