REVIEW: We Drank Out of a BIRD on Disney’s New Cruise Ship — The Wish

The moment that we’ve been waiting for is finally here!

Let’s GO! It’s Wish Time!

The Disney Wish has been christened and the inaugural sailing is just around the corner. We have so much information about the merchandise coming to the Disney Wish, plus entertainment like the live shows, as well as two unique dining experiences, a Marvel dining experience, and a Frozen-themed dining experience, as well. Now, we’re heading to one of the adults-only spaces on the ship to bring you our full review!

Atmosphere

Nightingale’s is a piano bar based off of the song (“Sing Sweet Nightingale”) in Cinderella (we’re already humming it), and it’s themed after the movie with lots of subtle touches to Cinderella in the decor. You might notice the various shades of blue and, of course, a piano!

Nightingale’s

The bar is located off of the lobby and is meant to serve as an extension of the Grand Hall, which is also fairytale-themed. You can grab fine wines and hand-crafted cocktails while listening to live entertainment!

Bar Seating

The piano is placed near the center of the room under an impressive chandelier, and if you look closely you may see the music notes and the “bubbles” that remind us of the “Sing Sweet Nightingale” scene in Cinderella, when she’s singing while washing the floors.

Piano

There’s a variety of seating available, including at the bar, individual tables, and some booths too. There are plush chairs and small tables surrounding the piano as well.

Variety of Seating

Let’s have a drink!

Drinks

This bar has an extensive wine list with some specialty cocktails as well. We had the opportunity to try their signature cocktail, the Sweet Nightingale, made with Hendricks Amazonia, Passion Fruit, Rosemary, and Mint for $20.

Bartender making our drink

The cocktail was served in an adorable glass bird (aka a nightingale).

Bartender pouring our drink into…a bird?

The passion fruit gave the cocktail a nice sweetness and it tempered the bite of the gin. Just about everyone is likely to enjoy this, and we found it amusing to drink out of a bird, too!

So cute!

Now the question is, should you visit this spot on the Disney Wish?

Nosh or Not?

Fly to to Nightingale’s if…

  • You’re looking for an adults-only space. This lounge is available exclusively to adults, so whether you’re looking for some time away from your kids (send them to the Disney’s Oceaneer Club!) or you prefer to spend your time in adults-only spaces, this would be a great spot for you!
  • You enjoy unique cocktails and extensive wine lists. The menu is full of wine and cocktails and who doesn’t want to drink out of a BIRD GLASS? We’d probably visit just to do that again!
  • You love live entertainment! Nightingale’s will feature live piano entertainment at certain times, so sit back, relax, sip on your drink, and listen to the live music!

Fly away from Nightingale’s if…

  • You’re looking for family-friendly spaces. Whether you prefer to be with your kids or spend most of your time in spaces where the whole family can hang out, this isn’t it.
  • You don’t care for “just drinks.” If you’re more interested in getting food with your drinks, you can stop by a variety of other locations around the Disney Wish!
  • Live music isn’t your thing. Live entertainment can create a louder, more lively atmosphere, so you might want to skip it if you prefer to have one-on-one conversations in more quiet spaces.

Overall

If you’re looking for an adults-only spot to grab a drink, you might enjoy giving this a try! We enjoyed our cocktail (and especially the unique bird glass!), so we can’t wait to check it out again when there’s live music.

We’ll be bringing you our thoughts from more of the dining experiences available onboard the Disney Wish cruise ship, so make sure to stay tuned to DFB for those reviews!

All the Disney World Hotels and Rides that Are CLOSED In July

Have you considered what might go WRONG during your next Disney World trip?

Things can go WRONG

We don’t mean to sound all doom and gloom, but we’ve found that considering some potential hiccups before a vacation can help that trip run more smoothly. Before you head out to the parks, make sure you’ve planned for what you’ll do if it starts to rain, what kinds of backup plans you may need, and how you’ll handle any meltdowns (from children or adults — hey, it happens). Right now, we’re here to help you be prepared for another potential bump in the road: rides, attractions, and hotels that are CLOSED. So here’s a complete list of what’s going to be closed this July in Disney World!

Magic Kingdom

Walt Disney World Railroad

The Walt Disney World Railroad will continue its years-long closure in this park through all of July. All of the stations are closed, and the trains are not currently running (except for the rare engine tests we’ve seen). Disney hasn’t announced a reopening date for the attraction.

Walt Disney World Railroad Main Street Station

We’re not expecting the Railroad to reopen until construction wraps up on the TRON: Lightcycle Run rollercoaster over in Tomorrowland. This construction has interrupted the tracks in that area of the park, which means the train can’t run. We don’t have an opening date for TRON yet, but we’re hoping that Disney announces one soon!

Enchanted Tales with Belle

Enchanted Tales with Belle is also closed in Magic Kingdom, and this attraction does not have a reopening date yet.

Enchanted Tales with Belle

You can sometimes find Belle at Princess Fairytale Hall, or spot her at the front of the Festival of Fantasy Parade, which runs through Magic Kingdom daily at 12PM and 3PM.

Pete’s Silly Sideshow

This character meet-and-greet location has been closed for a long time, but Disney finally announced that it will reopen sometime “in the coming months.” Although we don’t know the exact opening date, we’re excited to see Minnie, Daisy, Donald, and Goofy (the Great Goofini, as he’s known here) again soon!

Pete’s Silly Sideshow is closed for now!

In the meantime, we’re looking forward to meeting Peter Pan and Snow White in Fantasyland again when these characters return on July 10th. Disney also announced that Aladdin, Jasmine, Merida, Pooh, and Tigger will be making their return to Magic Kingdom for meet-and-greets soon!

Harmony Barber Shop

Did you know you can get your hair cut inside Magic Kingdom? The Harmony Barber Shop (a full-service barber shop) is located right on Main Street, U.S.A. It’ll reopen this month, on July 31st.

Harmony Barber Shop

Reservations are open NOW for this experience. Here’s a quick look at the pricing: Adult Haircut — starts at $21; Child’s Haircut — starts at $20; My First Haircut experience — starts at $28; Beard Trim — starts at $8.

Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique

Exciting news! Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique now has a reopening date! This Disney princess and prince salon will open in Magic Kingdom on August 25th, 2022.

Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique

The locations in Disney Springs and Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort will reopen “at a later date,” according to Disney. Reservations for this experience (which is for kids ages 3 to 12) open sometime in early August. We’ll be sure to let you know as soon as we have an exact opening date for those reservations.

Click here to see the BEST Magic Kingdom attraction, according to YOU.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Festival of the Lion King

The popular show A Celebration of the Festival of the Lion King (a Broadway-style show featuring music from the beloved movie) will be closed from July 5th through the 15th.

Festival of the Lion King

When the show reopens on the 16th, it’ll actually return to being called The Festival of the Lion King, and some elements that have been missing from the show will be added back in! During the closure, performers will be practicing the Tumble Monkey scene (to Hakuna Matata) along with the aerial acrobatic bird scene (to Can You Feel the Love Tonight?), and both of those acts will once again be part of the show when it reopens.

Learn more about the changes coming to The Festival of the Lion King here.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Voyage of the Little Mermaid

A few long-term closures are continuing in Hollywood Studios, including the Voyage of the Little Mermaid show. This show, which tells the story of Princess Ariel, has been closed for a long time and still doesn’t have a reopening date.

Voyage of the Little Mermaid

In the meantime, you can find a Little Mermaid-themed attraction over in Magic Kingdom: Under the Sea — Journey of the Little Mermaid.

Fantasmic!

This fan-favorite nighttime show is still closed, and we don’t have a reopening date for it yet. The show has returned to Disneyland, however!

Fantasmic!

We do know that when Fantasmic! opens again in Hollywood Studios, it’ll have some updates including new characters and special effects.

Character Meet-and-Greets at Star Wars Launch Bay

Star Wars Launch Bay has been a bit of a ghost town for a while now, with only a few exhibits located inside. However, Disney announced that character meet-and-greets will be returning to this location on July 17th! Starting then, you’ll be able to meet Chewbacca, Darth Vader, and BB-8 here.

Star Wars Launch Bay

Also starting on July 17th, Lightning Lanes for these character meet-and-greets will be available on Genie+. If you purchase Genie+ for $15 per person per day, you can reserve Lightning Lanes at certain attractions around the parks. When you get to these attractions, you can skip the standby line.

Star Wars: Galactic Spectacular

This nighttime show, which includes projections on the Chinese Theatre at the end of Hollywood Boulevard, has been unavailable for a long time now. Disney hasn’t announced when it will return.

Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular ©Disney

In the meantime, you can watch the Wonderful World of Animation show, which plays at the same location (the end of Hollywood Boulevard, by the Chinese Theatre) nightly at 9PM. Double-check the My Disney Experience app when you’re here to make sure this show is playing during your visit.

Check out some recent FLOODING at Hollywood Studios here.

EPCOT

Canada Far & Wide in CircleVision 360

Canada Far & Wide in CircleVision 360 is located in the Canada pavilion (of course), and it’s currently closed. This spot closed to make room for the Appleseed Orchard booth at EPCOT’s upcoming 2022 International Food & Wine Festival.

Canada Far & Wide

Since the food booth is located inside the attraction, we’re not expecting Canada Far & Wide to reopen until the festival concludes on November 19th.

See all the NEW food and drinks coming to the 2022 Food & Wine Festival.

Disney World Hotels

Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort

A couple of restaurants at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort are going to be closed in July. Victoria & Albert’s will reopen on July 28th, and reservations for this luxurious restaurant are available now. When it reopens, this spot will have some updates to both the menu and decor.

Main Dining Room at Victoria & Albert’s | 2018

Narcoossee’s is going to close beginning July 14th — reservations for this restaurant are open through July 13th. Disney has said that Narcoossee’s won’t reopen until sometime next year, so it’s getting quite the refurbishment!

Narcoosse’s

Disney’s Grand Floridian has some new Resort Studios, which opened at the end of June 2022. These DVC rooms have a Mary Poppins Returns theme.

The new rooms!

You can book the new Resort Studios now — they’re open to both DVC members and regular guests.

Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort

At Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, the Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show is now permanently closed. In fact, the building where the show was located has been demolished.

The Spirit of Aloha dinner show is no more.

Disney is in the process of constructing a new DVC building on the site where Spirit of Aloha used to be. The new building will have DVC villas, as well as some shopping and dining locations.

©Disney | Polynesian Village Resort concept art

We’re expecting this new building to open sometime in late 2024. In the meantime, guests at the Polynesian Village Resort should expect to see and hear some construction during their stay.

Check out the demolition taking place at this hotel.

Disney World Water Parks

Blizzard Beach

Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park opened for a brief time last year, but the park is now closed once again. Disney hasn’t announced yet when it could reopen.

Ski Lift at Blizzard Beach

If you’re looking for a way to cool off in Disney World this summer, head to Typhoon Lagoon — Disney World’s other water park. This park has a lazy river, several slides, and some new snacks to try.

Check out Typhoon Lagoon here!

There ya have it! Everything that’s closed for refurbishment in Disney World this July. There are a few ongoing projects for attractions that haven’t even opened yet, and you can check out some of those here. And don’t forget that some rides and attractions can close without advanced notice, such as when the weather is bad. Keep checking your My Disney Experience app to get real-time updates about what’s available in the parks.

New Spider-Man Loungefly Collection Swings Into Universal Orlando Resort

A new Spider-Man Loungefly collection has “thwipped” its way into Universal Orlando Resort. The collection includes a handbag, backpack, and wallet.

We found them in the Universal Studios Store at Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure Trading Company at Islands of Adventure.

Spider-Man Loungefly Mini Backpack – $82

The backpack shows Spider-Man swinging above skyscrapers in New York City.

The Spider-Man piece can be moved back and forth.

The rest of the bag is dark blue, almost black. The side pockets have a white web design on them.

“Thwip” is on the back in a starburst.

A web design is also on the handle.

Spider-Man Loungefly Wallet – $55

The wallet has a similar image of Spider-Man swinging with a web and the moon behind him.

The embroidered web continues on the other side of the wallet.

It unzips to reveal card slots, including a transparent ID slot. The lining is patterned with images of Spider-Man and “thwip.”

Spider-Man Loungefly Handbag – $79

The handbag also features the city skyline, with the moon behind the buildings. Spidey is shooting a web from the center, but he can’t be moved on this bag.

An included white bag charm features a black spider.

A web crosses over the other side of the handbag.

It has light blue handles decorated with webs, plus a detachable crossbody strap.

There are two pockets that snap closed and one zip pocket between them.

Will you be using any of this Spider-Man collection during future super adventures? Let us know in the comments.
