Even in the world’s most magical place, things can still go wrong.
We’ve seen everything from canceled shows to ride malfunctions to animatronics being completely off. We’ve experienced our share of ride closures and evacuations. Today, though, we got to see something a little different: while Space Mountain was down, we saw what it looks like with the lights on.
If you’ve ever been on Space Mountain in Magic Kingdom’s Tomorrowland, you’ll know that the roller coaster ride is mostly in the dark — it feels like you’re zooming through the stars on a fantastic voyage around the galaxy.
You might also know that if you’re riding the PeopleMover in Tomorrowland, you can get a unique view of Space Mountain, which is also usually dark. But today, Space Mountain is temporarily closed due to technical difficulties.
So when we rode the PeopleMover and reached the part that goes inside Space Mountain, we got to see the ride with the lights on!
What’s really fascinating is that you can see the structure of the roller coaster with the lights on. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen the lights on in Space Mountain recently — just last month we had the same experience while Space Mountain was closed for technical difficulties.
So if you ever DO see that Space Mountain is down and you want to see some behind-the-scenes details you normally wouldn’t see, hop on PeopleMover.
Pretty cool, right? We love seeing these details behind the magic.
In today’s PeopleMover episode, the people are moving, but not so much on Space Mountain

But what happens if you’re on a ride when it gets stopped for technical issues? Well, the first thing you should do is stay where you are until Cast Members give you instructions on what to do next. Then follow those directions as you’re safely evacuated from the ride (and you might get to see even more cool details during evacuation).
If your favorite ride closes during your visit, you can keep an eye on the My Disney Experience app to check when it becomes available again — check often because if you catch it just as it reopens, you could be first in line to ride it!
We’ll keep you updated on other ride closures and interesting things we see in the parks, so stay tuned to DFB for more!
