Before going to see Lightyear in the theaters on June 17, we thought we would try the Buzz-inspired ice cream cone at Swirls on the Water in Disney Springs. We’re hungry, so let’s jump right in.
Lightyear Ice Cream Cone – $5.85
Cheesecake soft-serve, white chocolate wings, galaxy sprinkles
The Lightyear Ice Cream Cone is very pretty. The purple swirl, green cone, and white chocolate wings come together to create a dessert that appears fit for a Space Ranger. And galaxy sprinkles? An adorable touch.
The cone makes an excellent picture, but you’ll have to be quick to take it. The ice cream was already a bit melted by the time we started eating. The chocolate wings got soft the moment they entered the sunlight. One might say Buzz flew a bit too close to the sun on this one.
As for flavor, the purple cheesecake ice cream tasted like cream cheese, sugar, and ice. It is as sweet as cotton candy, making it hard to enjoy.
The mess this ice cream cone made warrants its own paragraph. The purple ice cream stained our mouths and hands. The dye in the cone made it very soggy very quickly. The bottom of the cone broke soon after purchase. If your kids are begging to try this ice cream cone, we suggest you bring wipes — and plenty of them.
With taste and sheer mess combined, we don’t suggest the Lightyear Ice Cream Cone. There was too much clean-up to enjoy it thoroughly, and the taste was far too sweet. If you are looking for something good at Swirls on the Water, try the 50th Celebration Cone.
This treat will be available through June 30.
