There are SO many good eats at the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival that it’s nearly impossible to do them all in one day!
You’d have to have a massive team of people to knock out all the festival booths with all the new eats, let alone the returning favorites from past years. So, that typically means that you’ll have to prioritize when visiting the fest — pick the BEST booths on the list. In years past, the Mexico booth has been a DFB favorite…but is it living up to the legend in 2022? Let’s find out!
Menu
This year, Mexico’s menu is sporting both some returning favorites, as well as some new items that we think you’ll want to check out! There are three different food items to choose from — two entrees and a dessert.
On top of that, the menu features three beverages as well. It wouldn’t be the Mexico booth without a margarita!
Eats
We stopped by the Mexico booth today to grab some of the new items!
First up, we’re trying the Taco al Pastor for $7.50. It’s made with seared pork belly pastor on a corn tortilla with chipotle black beans, pineapple, pickled onions, and chives. Doesn’t that sound amazing?!
It was our favorite food item at this booth! The pineapple was really flavorful and juicy and we really enjoyed the corn tortilla. The pork also had a ton of flavor, and most of it had a great texture, but we did get a chewy piece in there, so keep that in mind if you decide to order it.
After that, we had the Tostada de Barbacoa! We’ve had tostadas here in the past, but this one is new with barbacoa beef on a fried corn tortilla with chipotle black beans, salsa verde, Mexican crema, queso fresco, and chives. You can order it for $8.
We liked the tostada, but compared to the taco, it’s no contest: we liked the taco more! The tostada tasted a little stale, but the beef and salsa were very good and made up for any staleness from the tostada.
To finish off with dessert, the Capirotada de Chocolate is back from last year for $6! It’s an abuelita chocolate bread pudding served with a chocolate crème anglaise.
But what about the beverages? Let’s wash it down with some drinks!
Drinks
Two drinks are new on the menu this year — first up the Blood Orange Charm Margarita! Centinela Blanco Tequila, blood orange aperitif, blackcurrant-infused vodka, and prosecco served on the rocks with pink peppercorns and sweet-dried-chile salt rim all come together to make up this drink, which will cost you $12.50.
This margarita is delicious. It’s on the drier side, which we liked, and it’s not super sweet, so if you’re looking for a sweet drink, this one’s not it. The rim has a small amount of heat to it, but overall it’s not too bad.
If that’s not your style, try out the It Takes Two to Mango Margarita. (Does anyone else just LOVE that name?!) It has Mezcal Ilegal Joven, mango purée, Nixta Corn Liqueur, rum, and ancho chile lime juice served on the rocks with a hibiscus-salt rim. Order this drink for $12.
We liked this one too! It was very drinkable, and the mezcal isn’t overly smoky the way some mezcals can be. We think we’d probably get the Blood Orange Margarita over this one, but we did enjoy this a lot.
And as usual, there’s a Mexican Craft Beer available if you want something a bit more straightforward. The beer is $5 for 6 ounces, or $10 for 12 ounces.
Overall
So what did we think of Mexico? Once again, it’s a solid Food and Wine Festival option. The food is good, and who doesn’t love a nice margarita on a hot day? We would definitely order the Taco al Pastor again, and we enjoyed trying some new and unique margaritas!
