Despite high demand for travel this summer, many airlines have recently been cutting back on flights due to staffing shortages. But this isn’t the case for all airlines.
A few airlines — such as Breeze Airways and Norse Atlantic Airways — have instead ADDED new flights to their schedules, including routes to Orlando. Now, another airline is adding a new route to the Orlando International Airport, which could make traveling to Disney World easier for some guests.
Spirit Airlines has announced that they are adding a new non-stop route from the San Antonio Airport (SAT) to the Orlando International Airport (MCO). This new route starts on November 17th, 2022.
That means that guests flying out of Texas now have another option for getting to Orlando.
The change comes as some other airlines have canceled certain non-stop routes to Orlando, including Hawaiian Airlines. Other airlines are simply cutting back on flights this summer (which Delta Air Lines has done) or stopping service altogether to certain airports (like American Airlines has done).
Remember that if you fly into the Orlando International Airport, you’ll need to make your own way to Disney World. Disney discontinued their Magical Express service, so there are no longer free rides from the airport to your Disney hotel. Instead, you can use one of the paid replacement services (Mears Connect or Sunshine Flyer), book a rideshare service (like Uber or Lyft), or call a taxi.
We’ll continue to watch for more updates that might impact your upcoming trip to Disney World, so stay tuned to DFB for the latest!
