Gideon’s Bakehouse is celebrating Florida this July with the return of their orange pecan chocolate chip cookie, which was first available in April 2021.
This month’s menu features the character of Stuart holding a sunflower.
The other side has oranges at the top. The orange pecan chocolate chip cookie will be available through August 14, as it is part of Flavors of Florida.
Orange Pecan Chocolate Chip Cookie – $6
Vanilla bean Cookie dough fused with Orange and mixed with Dark Chocolates. To add some crunch, the exterior is covered in delightful South Florida Pecan Pralines and a very special Candied Orange Peel.
This Florida-themed cookie starts off with a vanilla bean cookie base, a staple of Gideon’s lineup which will please most palates. The base is then infused with a massive kick of orange flavoring, joined by candied orange peels on the top.
The orange flavor is not subtle, and the candied oranges give it a slightly artificial taste, even though we know Gideon’s is using organic orange.
The dark chocolate chips are heavily added, both inside and out, and are the strongest flavor. This tastes like a chocolate chip cookie with orange added, not the other way around.
Finally, the pecan pralines are a nice addition but difficult to identify among the other flavors and textures.
Overall, if you enjoy the combination of chocolate and orange, you can’t go wrong with this cookie — but snackers looking for a more subdued taste have come to the wrong place.
If citrus is your thing, Gideon’s is also offering the Stuart Cake on Saturdays and Sundays in July.
Since today is Friday, we didn’t have a chance to try it out, but the official description reads, “Dark Orange Chocolate Buttercream smothering three layers of Chocolate Cake covered in Chocolate Chips, Candied Pecans, and Candied Orange.” Cake slices at Gideon’s are usually $10.
Banana Bread Chocolate Chip Cookie – $6
Also returning this month is the Banana Bread Chocolate Chip Cookie, which originally debuted in January of this year.
As soon as they hand you this cookie, you can just smell the banana. It is covered in milk chocolate chips and walnuts.
The cookie itself is a banana cookie. They baked the banana into the cookie, exactly like banana bread.
The cookie is extremely well-made and moist throughout.
If you do not like banana bread, you will not enjoy this. With each bite, you get chocolate, walnut, and banana flavors coming through.
