As Tropical Storm Ian continues on its path through Florida, Disney World is making preparations to reopen the parks once the weather calms down.
Disney has announced that the parks and Disney Springs will reopen this week in a phased way, and most hotels in Disney World will be accepting new check-ins starting at 3PM on Friday, September 30th. However, it’s possible that Disney is still limiting new reservations for its hotels.
On September 26th — 2 days before Hurricane Ian made landfall in Florida — we noticed that none of the Disney World hotels were showing availability for the next few days. Disney has done this in the past when extreme weather hit since limiting the number of guests in its hotels makes it easier to take care of the people who are already there if they have to shelter in place.
Now, it looks like Disney may have extended the limited availability. The website is now showing no availability at the Disney World hotels through October 2nd.
Although they have announced that people who already have reservations will be able to check in on Friday, it looks like no one can make new reservations for dates from now through October 2nd. We are seeing some availability for reservations that begin on October 3rd.
For those people staying at Disney World hotels now, Cast Members have provided some entertainment, and dining options are available, though limited. In many cases, Mobile Order pick-up times have been hard to come by.
As Hurricane Ian is passing over Florida, it has weakened into a tropical storm. However, there is still a danger of flash floods and tornadoes.
We’ll continue to monitor Tropical Storm Ian and its impact on Disney World, so stay tuned to DFB for all the latest updates.
