In the past, fans of The Queen have been able to pick up treats themed to The Queen or royal-themed merchandise in the United Kingdom pavilion in EPCOT, but today’s news surrounding the Royal family is much more somber.

As we noted above, Queen Elizabeth II, The Queen of the United Kingdom, has passed away. According to a tweet from The Royal Family, The Queen passed away peacefully at Balmoral on the afternoon of September 8th.

The Royal Family Tweet also indicated that The King and The Queen Consort would remain at Balmoral this night and would be heading back to London tomorrow.

This news follows stories from earlier on September 8th that indicated that The Queen had been placed under medical supervision at Balmoral because her doctors were “concerned for Her Majesty’s health,” according to the BBC.

The Queen’s children gathered at her Scottish estate near Aberdeen, as well as other members of her family.

The website for the Royal Family has been changed to reflect this and indicates that the website is unavailable as appropriate changes are being made.

The Queen was 96 years old at the time of her passing. She was Britain’s longest-reigning monarch — this year marked 70 years of her rule on the throne.

His Majesty The King issued a statement in response to the passing and shared that he and his family are mourning profoundly The Queen’s passing and that this moment marks a time of great sadness for them.

According to AP News, Prince Charles became king as soon as his mother passed away. He is the oldest person to take the British throne, but no date has yet been set for his coronation.

British Prime Minister Liz Truss, who The Queen recently formally asked to become the next prime minister, had said that the country is “devastated” by the loss. Truss referred to The Queen as “the rock on which modern Britain was built.”

Some have chimed in with their responses to The Queen’s passing, including Bob Iger, Disney’s former CEO. Iger shared that with The Queen’s passing, the world “lost an extraordinary person.” He also noted that he had always “respected and appreciated her energy, dedication, fortitude,” among other traits.

The Disney UK account has also sent out a Tweet in response to the passing, showing Winnie the Pooh next to The Queen. Back in 2021, Disney actually released a special Winnie the Pooh animation for Queen Elizabeth’s birthday.

One of our reporters happened to be in the United Kingdom pavilion in EPCOT at the time that the news was shared, and noticed that Senior Cast Members and managers were going around to the Cast Members there and offering them time to step away or call home if needed.

We are truly saddened to hear of the passing of The Queen and send our sincere condolences to all those in the Commonwealth countries.
