Orlando Airports CLOSING in Preparation for Hurricane Ian

Hurricane Ian is currently a Category 3 hurricane located in the Gulf of Mexico. The storm is expected to make landfall along the west coast of Florida on Wednesday, September 28th. In preparation, Florida officials have issued mandatory evacuations in some counties and various extreme weather watches and warnings throughout the state.

Disney World has responded to the incoming storm by closing some hotels and attractions, updating their cancelation policy, and limiting available hotel reservations. If you were planning to fly in or out of Florida (for a Disney vacation or otherwise), there’s a major airport update you should be aware of.

According to the Orlando International Airport’s website, this airport will be closed beginning at 10:30AM on Wednesday, September 28th.

They have not yet announced when the airlines will resume operation. Presumably, the airport will remain closed until weather conditions calm so that it’s safe to fly again.

In addition, the Orlando Sanford International Airport will close Tuesday afternoon after the final flight out, which is going to depart at 4PM EST (Wesh 2).
