“Wrongdoing and Debauchery” at Disney World Will Be the Focus of a NEW Documentary

There’s a lot of new content to look forward to if you’re a fan of Disney stories. You can watch Dancing With the Stars on Disney+ now, and check out the new Andor series on the same platform. But there’s another movie coming out that’s about a very different kind of Disney story.

Magic Kingdom

Jeff Tremaine is producing a new documentary called Stolen Kingdom that will show a side of Disney World that you may never have seen before.

Jeff Tremaine (director of Jackass) is teaming up with directors Joshua Bailey and Sam Fraser to create Stolen Kingdom. This documentary tells the story of “the 30-year history of wrongdoing and debauchery at Walt Disney World Resort, and how it led to the theft of an audio-animatronic valued at almost $500,000 on the black market” (Deadline).

This is the true story of Patrick Spikes, who, according to the Orlando Sentinel, stole many props and other items from Disney World while he worked there as a Cast Member. Among the stolen items were ride manuals, park signs, and an animatronic head from the Carousel of Progress valued at almost $35,000.

Spikes sold many items on eBay and was charged with “burglary at EPCOT and the Magic Kingdom as well as grand theft and trafficking in stolen Haunted Mansion costumes, according to court records.” One of the highest-value items he is thought to have stolen is Buzzy, the animatronic from EPCOT’s Wonders of Life pavilion.

About the upcoming documentary, Tremaine said, “Josh and Sam somehow found me and introduced me to this story I found so compelling. I was inspired by not only this story but by these young filmmakers. Having been a part of some Disneyland misbehavior, I’m excited to be involved in this.

So far there’s no word about a premiere date or where the film will debut, but we’ll keep an eye out for more updates. In the meantime, you can watch Avatar in theaters again as Disney prepares for the sequel, Avatar: The Way of Water, which will come out on December 16th this year.
