The Walt Disney World Railroad has been closed in Magic Kingdom for what feels like FOREVER (it’s been almost four years!) due to the construction of TRON Lightcycle Run, but things might be changing soon.

We’ve been keeping an eye on TRON construction progress as well as everything happening with the railroad, but Disney has not yet announced when the classic attraction will reopen. That said, Disney has just released an update that could mean big changes!
Disney shared a video on TikTok showing one of the Walt Disney World Railroad conductors actually testing the train! They captioned the video, “Testing is just beginning for the Walt Disney World Railroad crew.”

We have actually witnessed railroad testing in person as recently as September when we heard some iconic train sounds (but didn’t actually see the train). Disney did not say how far along they are in the testing process so at this point it’s uncertain when exactly the railroad will reopen.

We know that TRON will be opening in Spring 2023 and we’ve seen new railroad tracks installed below the attraction, leading into a tunnel where the Walt Disney World Railroad will travel through. We’re not sure whether Disney may choose to reopen the railroad before or after TRON opens so we’ll be keeping an eye out for more updates.
