REVIEW: Bavaria Holiday Kitchen Returns with German Classics for the 2022 EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays

The Bavaria Holiday Kitchen is a staple of the EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays. While the dishes and beverages offered at this marketplace tend to stay the same throughout the years, it’s a telling sign that everything offered here is delicious and worth trying!

Pork Schnitzel with Mushroom Sauce and Spaetzle – $6.50

*NEW* Pork Schnitzel with Mushroom Sauce and Spaetzle – $6.25

The schnitzel is a big thumbs up from us. Great noodles and awesome gravy on top really add to this dish.

*NEW* Pork Schnitzel with Mushroom Sauce and Spaetzle – $6.25

However, the pork tasted like a chicken patty to us. It’s not necessarily a bad thing, but when you’re expecting pork and taste something similar to chicken, it’s a little off-putting.

*NEW* Pork Schnitzel with Mushroom Sauce and Spaetzle – $6.25

Although the schnitzel may taste a bit like chicken, the gravy alone is enough to give this dish a really good review.

Cheese Fondue in a Bread Bowl with Fresh Steamed Baby Vegetables and Marble Potatoes – $8.25

Served in a bread bowl with steamed baby vegetables and marble potatoes, this is the largest serving of bread you’re going to get at the Festival, and it’s a great dish to share. The cheese was good, but perhaps another half-ladle more would have helped finish off all the bread.

Linzer Cookie – $3.00

This is super buttery, soft and flaky. It appears to be a raspberry filling on the inside.

We like the tartness in the middle of the cookie, which cuts through the sweetness. You don’t get the tartness until you actually move towards the center of the cookie.

It’s a good cookie, one we truly enjoyed.

Possmann Pure Hard Apple Cider, Frankfurt, Germany (5.0% ABV) – $5.50 for 6 oz., $9.50 for 12 oz.

Possmann describes their Pure Hard Apple Cider: “Possmann Pure Cider has a perfect balance of rich apple flavor while not too sweet, and finishing dry. The flavor comes from our unique source of apples, which are harvested exclusively from our 800+ farmers in the Hessen region of Germany. Our typical framer has 3 to 15 naturally occurring apple trees on their land that are not part of a cultivated orchard. These country apples provide a uniquely rich apple flavor.”

The Tank Brewing Co. Prost! Fest Bier, Miami, FL (5.9% ABV) – $5.50 for 6 oz., $9.50 for 12 oz.

Cody R. on Untappd says that this beer is “dry” and “hoppy” with a “musk aftertaste.”

Ayinger Brewery Celebrator Doppelbock, Bavaria, Germany (6.7% ABV) – $5.50 for 6 oz., $9.50 for 12 oz.

Ayinger Brewery describes Celebrator Doppelbock as “a beer that has a dominant malty taste. This beer’s origins in a monk’s recipe are reflected in its heartiness. The Pope of Beers, Conrad Seidl, describes it as: ‘Almost black with a very slight red tone, a sensational, festive foam and truly extraordinary fragrance that at first summons up visions of greaves lard. The first taste is of mild fullness with an accompanying coffee tone, which becomes more dominant with the aftertaste. There is very little of the sweetness that is frequently to be tasted with doppelbock beer.’”

Glühwein: House-made Hot Spiced Wine – $9.50

Glühwein: House-made Hot Spiced Wine – $9.00

This wine is absolutely horrible. We managed to get a few sips down, but it was one of the worst drinks we’ve tried at the Festival.

Glühwein: House-made Hot Spiced Wine – $9.00

It tastes like really cheap wine that was warmed up, and possibly even worse than the cheapest liquor you could find at your grocery store.

While no new items were added to this marketplace this year, we still recommend hitting the booth to try the food….just maybe not the Glühwein.

The EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays is running from November 25 to December 30, 2022.
