*NEW* Tortellini in Brodo – $9.50

Five-Cheese Tortellini with House-made Aromatic Winter Truffle Broth and Chives

tortellini in brodo 1

Well, the Italian festival booth is at it again! This was so weak, and frankly, the worst thing we’ve had at the festival.

tortellini in brodo 2

The broth is explained to be very flavorful, but it tastes more like a chicken noodle soup.

tortellini in brodo 3

The pasta is heavy, and supposed to be three cheese, but it’s lacking in all areas.

It’s served warm, which we suppose is the kindest thing we can say about it. Do yourself a favor and avoid this like the plague.

*NEW* Salmone alla Siciliana – $8.50

Cured Salmon Tartare, Sicilian Blood Orange, Pistachios and Basil

salmone alla siciliana 1

Who wants salmon in a push pop? Most of the flavor is on top of the pop, and it needs to be eaten cold.

salmone alla siciliana 2

There’s a tad of a hint of lemon throughout, but the taste is mostly fishy.

salmone alla siciliana 3

It’s expensive, small-portioned, and would be better served on a crostini. This one is a hard pass.

*NEW* Panettone – $7.00

Panettone Bread Pudding and Vanilla Cream

Despite Italy whiffing again and again with their savory dishes, in recent years, we’ve found they can actually make a decent dessert, and this one seems to continue the streak.

This has a cakey texture, which is very airy and very light. It’s supposed to be like bread pudding with lighter bread. The vanilla sauce is good and quite sweet. The panettone becomes quite dense when soaked in the vanilla sauce, which gives it a nice texture.

The raspberry is great. The fruit flavor adds so much more dimension to the dish. More of that would be great. Also, would love to add some limoncello for a boozy option. Otherwise, if you’re going to get anything here, get this… and nothing else.

Banfi Rosa Regale Sparkling Red Wine – $12.00

According to Banfi, Rosa Regale has a “festive cranberry” color, with an “aromatic [bouquet] with hints of raspberries, strawberries and rose petals,” and the taste of “fresh raspberries, with crisp acidity, enticing the palate with an initial softness, graduating to a clean and dry finish.”

Italian White Sangria with Prosecco – $12.00

Usually, when a Sangria beverage of this price contains more juice than wine, we would complain. However, since the wine in this drink tasted particularly cheap and unpleasant, in this case it was somewhat of a relief. The drink was supposed to contain Prosecco, however this was unidentifiable from the lack of fizz in the drink.

Italian Red Sangria with Cabernet Sauvignon – $12.00

Have you ever put red wine in the microwave? That’s what this is. We thought sangria came with ice and fruit, but this was just a room temperature liquid. The flavor was fruity, so it could have been really good, but as it got hotter, it was just too warm to drink.

Italian Margarita with Tequila and Limoncello – $12.00

Tuscany Booth Festival of the Holidays 20191

The margarita was quite good as it tasted almost like a melting lemon ice dessert. However, there didn’t seem to be much liquor in the drink, as we didn’t taste much besides the faint hint of tequila.

Overall, this is a tasty drink, but don’t expect to get much alcohol for your money here.

Peroni Pilsner – $6.50 for 6 oz., $11.00 for 12 oz.

Peroni Brewery describes their beer as “a crisp and refreshing beer with a delicate balance of bitterness, citrus and spicy aromatic notes, combined with a fast and clean finish.”
