Why You May Want To AVOID the Annual Passholder Line at Magic Kingdom

There’s a NEW addition to the Annual Passholder entrance at Magic Kingdom!

Annual Passholder sign

Being a Disney World Annual Passholder not only gets you entry to the theme parks — you often get access to exclusive merchandise, special Magic Shots, and other perks. We often see a separate line at the park entrances for Annual Passholders, and today we noticed something different in this line.

If you have a Disney World Annual Pass, look for a separate Annual Passholder (AP) line when you’re heading into one of the theme parks. These lines are often shorter than the normal ones, so it’s good to take advantage of that. Today while we were heading into Magic Kingdom, we noticed that there’s a new turnstile in the AP line!

New turnstiles

The turnstiles are where you’ll scan your MagicBand, phone, or AP card in order to gain access to the park. You’ll also need to scan your finger at these stations. The new AP turnstile is gold (the previous ones were silver), but that’s not the only thing that’s different about it.

It’s gold!

The Cast Member we spoke to about this update told us that the new turnstile is part of a new system that Disney is trying out, but this system is slower than the one they have now. The Cast Member said they’ve noticed it takes about twice as long for the new turnstile to check and approve tickets as the old ones.

Disney hasn’t confirmed that this new system will be rolling out to more turnstiles, but we’ll be watching for updates at the other park entrances as well. In the meantime, it might be faster to use the normal lines, even if you have an Annual Pass. The difference in time could add up with lots of people trying to enter the park!
