Handheld Phones & Cameras Banned on Space Mountain in Magic Kingdom

Over the weekend, Space Mountain received a new rule sign warning guests that handheld phones and cameras are not permitted during their ride at the attraction. While Disney theme parks have always been very relaxed with their on-board items policy, it seems that might all be about to change.

Though the attraction gives off a feeling of high speed, at 28mph / 44kph, Space Mountain propelled with a little more speed than Fantasyland’s Barnstormer at 24mph / 40kph. That’s less than half the speeds you will enjoy on Rock ‘n’ Rollercoaster or Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. That soaring-through-space feeling is created by other effects, including the dark surroundings that keep you unsure of where you are on the ride.

Some guests are speculating that this safety precaution might be the first of many rolled out across the faster-paced attractions, given the damage that can be caused to falling personal property and the safety concern for other guests when loose items are free falling through the attraction.

what happened on space for them to add these signs everywhere lol pic.twitter.com/YyiEnEzeuR
