Ever since Genie+ launched in Disney World in 2021, we’ve seen a LOT of changes to the system.
With Genie+, you pay each day of your trip to access Lightning Lanes around the parks (price starts at $15 per person, per day and fluctuates depending on the day). Think of the Lightning Lanes like the former FastPass lines — they allow you to get on attractions faster than if you stood in the standby queue. You’ll need to book your Lightning Lane choices through the My Disney Experience app, and starting today, there’s a change in the booking process for Disney World!
A few days ago, it was announced that Genie+ would soon be changing to allow guests to modify their selections after they were made. This was a feature of FastPass+ that many guests liked, considering you could swap out your reservation time if you happened to see one pop up that was earlier.
We noticed this change roll out on the west coast in the Disneyland app yesterday, but now it’s live in Disney World! We were using Genie+ in the My Disney Experience app this morning when we realized we could modify our selections. We made a Lightning Lane reservation for Jingle Cruise, and later when we tapped on it, a little box popped up at the bottom of our screen. There, you can get details, add someone to your Lightning Lane, cancel the reservation, view My Day, or modify it!
Once we selected “Modify Plan” we were directed to a new screen filled with options. There, we selected a new time for our Lightning Lane, but we could’ve also chosen from a variety of other times for other attractions as well. This adds a lot of flexibility to the process since you don’t have to cancel and rebook.
Keep in mind that currently, this change only applies to Lightning Lanes booked through Genie+. It does not apply to the Individual Lightning Lanes that you pay for a la carte (Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, Rise of the Resistance, and Flight of Passage). If you book one of those, they cannot be modified.
We’ll continue to try out this new method and keep you updated if we discover anything important! We’ve used Genie+ dozens of times, so if you need advice on how to conquer the system ahead of your upcoming trip, make sure to check out our full guides.
