No Cash? Definitely A Problem Sometimes In Disney World

Although Disney World is the most magical place on Earth, sometimes things happen that aren’t so…well…magical.

Sign for when Skyliner goes down

Sometimes rides go down, sometimes we see animatronics that just aren’t working right, sometimes transportation isn’t operating, and sometimes other technology at the parks goes awry. This morning, though, there was a technical glitch with Disney World’s payment system, which is a reminder that you might always want to keep some cash on you when at the resort.

When we arrived at Magic Kingdom this morning, we walked into a shop to grab a pair of new ears, but we were unable to use our credit card — a Cast Member told us that they were only accepting cash at the moment. We even tried to use the Mobile Checkout option but had no luck. We checked at several shops and were told the same thing.

However, another reporter checked in EPCOT, and their card machines seemed to be working, so it may just be a problem exclusive to Magic Kingdom. What was even stranger is that we were allowed to mobile order a water from Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe without issues. So it just seems to be something affecting merchandise purchases.

After about an hour in the park, though, it seemed the issue was resolved and we were told the system was working again, but this is a good reminder that you might always want to keep at least SOME cash on you when you’re in the parks. We’ve seen problems like this before, after all!

If you DO forget to keep cash on you and come across this problem, you could hit up an ATM, but be warned that you will probably have to pay some bank fees if you do so. Your best bet is to just go back to that store later because these problems don’t usually last TOO long.
