Walt Disney World Ambassador Ali Manion has announced via Dr. Mark Penning’s Instagram account that a fun holiday activity is available for guests of all ages. The activity consists of making a tree ornament using natural ostrich shells from eggs laid by ostriches at the resort and Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park.
With no male ostriches at the park or resort, these eggs remain unfertilized and go unused by the female ostriches who lay them on a cycle similar to chickens.
Once the eggs are cleaned, they are crushed and dyed, glued onto an animal-shaped ornament of the guest’s choosing, then tied off with a recycled telephone wire.
Guests can participate by visiting the recreation clubhouses at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge; Jambo House from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Kidani Village from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. until December 31.
Take a look at the post below to see an example of what the ornaments look like!
