Tomorrowland Light & Power Co. in Magic Kingdom is being updated ahead of the opening of the nearby TRON Lightcycle / Run. The Space Mountain gift shop is currently closed with no firm reopening date. Part of the retheming is removing all of the Tomorrowland 1994 elements from the shop, including the giant gears above the entrance. Now the giant clock, electrical tower mural, and themed signage are gone as well.
Below is what the facade looked like just a few weeks ago:
Given that these elements are connected to the long-dead 1994 version of Tomorrowland Disney has been slowly erasing for several years now, it is safe to assume they aren’t returning. We wouldn’t be surprised to see the remaining text covered or removed or even see the shop return with a new name and/or theme to distance itself from the original concept as part of a “working city”.
A scrim now covered damage left by the clock’s removal.
We’ll have to wait and see if these banners survive as well.
Construction walls remain up around the shop, with guests exiting through a temporary corridor after riding Space Mountain.
Work continues on the side and on the back of the Tomorrowland Light & Power Co. as well.
