The new DuckTales World Showcase Adventure game officially debuts on December 16, but we were able to participate in a soft opening at EPCOT. Join us as we take on our first mission to help Scrooge McDuck, Huey, Dewey, Louie, and Webby find the 7 Plunders of the World and return them to their rightful owners.
This article will contain gameplay spoilers, but each mission has different variating tasks and puzzles. You may or may not get the same experiences as we detail here.
Getting Started
The game requires the Play Disney Parks app and a My Disney Experience account.
Once you’re logged in, you can select the game by swiping through the options and then clicking “play.”
It will take you to the start screen, where you can choose “let’s go!” to start the game or “exit” to go back.
Because we were part of a playtest group, we had to input an early access code.
It then asks you to select an “adven-share” mission at one of six pavilions. We decided to start with China.

Scrooge McDuck instructs us to go to the China pavilion.
Once you arrive and accept your adven-share, Dewey arrives to give you the mission information.
Our mission: recover the Jade Monkey of Swanshi idol from fortune thief Toad Liu Hai. The Jade Monkey has the power to control luck. It’s been lost beneath the sunken village of Swanshi.
However, Toad Liu Hai has already found the chamber of the monkey, and he’s using the idol to drain the luck from anyone that he comes in contact with.
He cursed the waters, so now we have to remove the curse from the water and then rescue the monkey idol.
Luckily, Launchpad McQuack stayed dry in the plane, so he shouldn’t be burdened with bad luck.
The game now directs us further into the pavilion.
Webby tells us that a local in town claims to have caught a mystical cricket from Swanshi.
As befitting DuckTales, there are little moments of humor sprinkled through.
Using Webby’s advice, we are directed to find a specific window display for assistant request mission: What the Cricket Knew!
Mission: What the Cricket Knew!
We spotted the window display.
The app directs us to investigate to the right of the easel.
After you tap the correct item, he starts painting, and the easel is turned toward you.
The golden cricket only sings his song every 50 years, but he’s not going to sing us a song today, so he left us a message — lotus.
If you missed the effect, it gives you the option to do it again. Our mission is then complete. We receive a badge and are prompted to the next location for Mission: Uncrashable.
Dewey has tracked the target to the hotel, and sends us there for the next mission.
Mission: Uncrashable
Huey directs us to override the hotel’s entry system.
After we arrive at the hotel, the app directs us to find the hotel door.
Launchpad asks the guest to open the hotel door, and the app further instructs you to actually try the door.
It then advises you to move back a safe distance. This should have tipped us off, but the effect after still startled us.
Launchpad eavesdropped inside and relayed information.
At the end of each mission, a completion page is shown.
Mission: Pagodatenna Protocol
Huey hurt both of his hands (wings?) trying to activate the Pagodatenna to use against Toad.
After you explain sonic weapons to your kids, follow Huey’s directions to the next mission location.
After the hotel door, we are directed to another display window next to the cricket one for Mission: Pagodatenna Protocol.
We are requested to find the pagoda and identify what is next to the pagoda to trigger the Pagodatenna. Once you select the object that is next to the pagoda, the building raises up to display a code.
The code will disappear pretty quickly, so you need to type it in fast.
After typing in the code, it releases the sonic pulse that hurts Toad’s ears to distract him so we could raise the monkey out of the water. It worked, and we are directed to the lotus pond.
Mission: The Curse of the Lucky Monkey!
Toad is affected by the Pagodatenna’s sonic attack.
The app will guide you through the pavilion to the correct spot.
This triggers a physical effect and actually raises the monkey idol from the water.
The screen will show you a mission complete graphic, and you’ll unlock the “Jade Hero” achievement on the Play Disney Parks app.
When you return to the game later, a “C” for complete will be next to the pavilion.
