We’ve been following the progress of the new rollercoaster coming to Magic Kingdom: TRON Lightcycle Run.
From ride testing to music, we’ve been watching the ride inch closer to its spring 2023 opening. And today, we got an even closer look at what to expect from this new thrill ride!
We’ve seen test runs of TRON Lightcycle Run, but until a few days ago, we were only been able to get a peek at the progress from the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover and from over by the Barnstormer. But when the Magic Kingdom train reopened, we got a whole new view!
This ride was originally slated to open in time for Disney World’s 50th Anniversary on October 1st, 2021, but the timeline was pushed back and Disney recently shared that this new coaster will open in Spring 2023.
And it seems only fitting that Disney fans got a bit of a Christmas gift today when Good Morning America shared their experience riding the attraction for the first time!
The brief clip was less than 2 minutes on the air, but it showed a lot of fun details we’ve never seen before!
First, it showed these TV hosts walking down the queue into the attraction loading area. The dark interior with electric blue lights and graphics adds to that feeling of being inside the digital world of a video game.
Next, we got to see the loading area…
…and the actual ride vehicles!
Guests board the bike and lean forward to grip the handles. The back restraint then comes down to secure guests on to the bike.
Once the guests are secured and safety is checked, the vehicle taxis over to the launch. The launch tunnel continues indoors with graphics and blue lighting, propelling guests into this digital adventure.
It looks like the indoor launch gradually speeds up before going outside of the show building. Once through the launch, the vehicles race under the canopy which is illuminated at night, creating a unique experience for those riding at night.
Then, it looks like the vehicles dart back inside to continue the digital adventure. You can see the change in graphics and lightning on this portion of the ride.
In this portion, the screens show other bikes in the attraction that are part of the race and give the sense that guests are really racing against other Lightcycles.
We can’t wait to see more about TRON and get the opportunity to ride it soon when it opens in the spring!
