The Walt Disney World Railroad is Officially Open!

This is the best Christmas gift EVER! The attraction has been closed for over four years, and now guests can officially enjoy a scenic ride around the Magic Kingdom. Yesterday cast members enjoyed a train ride while waving to guests; it was a refreshing sight to see.

Disney has posted the official operating hours of the Walt Disney World Railroad. Visitors can take a ride from 10 am to 6 pm, and this attraction is suitable for all ages and heights.

Here is how Disney describes the attraction.

Listen to the clamor of the engine, the chug of the wheels and the call of the whistle as you travel aboard the Walt Disney World Railroad.

Take your seat on 1 of 4 meticulously restored, vintage narrow-gauge steam trains—originally built between 1916 and 1928—and enjoy a relaxing 20-minute, 1.5-mile scenic round-trip tour.

It’s a convenient—and nostalgic—way to get around Magic Kingdom park!

Guests can board and disembark the train at the park’s three stations.

Here is some history regarding the railroad

  • The Walt Disney World Railroad was an opening day attraction on October 1, 1971, but at that time, the only stop the locomotive made was Main Street, U.S.A. On May 1, 1972, a second stop was opened in Frontierland. On June 18, 1988, the third station opened in [what was then] Mickey’s Birthdayland. (This station is considered the Storybook Circus section of Fantasyland.)
  • Four trains make up the Walt Disney World Railroad, and all were originally built between 1916 and 1928. The Walt Disney Company bought the locomotives in 1969 from the Ferrocarriles Unidos de Yucatán, a railroad located in the state of Yucatán in Mexico. After Disney acquired them, each one was restored and named after a different Disney legend.

Who’s excited to take a trip around the Magic Kingdom? I know I am!
