The 2023 Academy Award nominations have been announced and several Disney films, most notably “Avatar: The Way of Water” and “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” have earned nominations.
Here’s the full list of Disney films and their nominations:
“Avatar: The Way of Water”
- Best Picture – James Cameron and Jon Landau
- Best Sound – Julian Howarth, Gwendolyn Yates Whittle, Dick Bernstein, Christopher Boyes, Gary Summers, and Michael Hedges
- Best Visual Effects – Joe Letteri, Richard Baneham, Eric Saindon, and Daniel Barrett
- Best Production Design – Production Design: Dylan Cole and Ben Procter; Set Decoration: Vanessa Cole
“Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”
- Best Supporting Actress – Angela Bassett
- Best Costume Design – Ruth Carter
- Best Original Song – “Lift Me Up,” music by Tems, Rihanna, Ryan Coogler, and Ludwig Goransson; Lyrics by Tems and Ryan Coogler
- Best Visual Effects – Geoffrey Baumann, Craig Hammack, R. Christopher White and Dan Sudick
- Best Make Up & Hairstyling – Camille Friend and Joel Harlow
“Avatar: The Way of Water” and “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” are both nominated for Best Visual Effects.
“Turning Red”
- Best Animated Feature – Domee Shi and Lindsey Collins
“Fire of Love”
- Best Documentary Feature Film – Sara Dosa, Shane Boris, and Ina Fichman
“Fire of Love” is a National Geographic film following two volcanologists.
“Le Pupille”
- Best Live-Action Short Film – Alice Rohrwacher and Alfonso Cuarón
This Italian film was released on Disney+ in December and is the first live-action short film released on Disney+ to be nominated for the Academy Award.
