Lava Pool Waterslide Refurbishment Underway at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort

The Lava Pool at Walt Disney World’s Polynesian Village Resort features a towering volcano, a waterfall, and zero-depth entry, but its biggest draw is a 142-foot waterslide. As guests brave the January temperatures poolside, they may have noticed some work underway as the Lava Pool waterslide undergoes routine refurbishment.

The sides of the stairs that begin the 142-foot climb to the summit of the Lava Pool waterslide are covered as refurbishment efforts begin. The bottom of the slide is roped off, so guests hanging out by the pool have no need to worry about being in the splash zone. The waterslide remains closed through early February 2023.

A step back from the active site shows that the entrance at the top remains covered as crews work to replace sections of the waterslide and inspect the integrity and appearance of the stairs that make up the the trek to the top.

Guests looking to take a winter dive in the Lava Pool can still enjoy a splash in this feature pool. Only the waterslide itself is closed off for refurbishment. The project is expected to wrap up in early February 2023. The Oasis Pool is also available to guests of the Polynesian Village Resort.

While the routine maintenance closure was announced in December, the WDW News Today team spotted a crew hard at work near the Lava Pool last week. The waterslide refurb comes as construction continues on the new Disney Vacation Club wing at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort.
