Even the Minions are celebrating the year of the rabbit! A new collection of Lunar New Year Minion merchandise is available at the Animation Studio Store in Universal Studios Hollywood.
The merchandise is displayed alongside cherry blossoms and red paper lanterns.
Lunar New Year Minion Tank Top – $33
Like a lot of this merchandise, this heathered gray tank top features a Minion wearing rabbit ears and holding a carrot. Two carrots are behind it, too, and on the ribbon below. Universal Studios is written in both English and Mandarin at the bottom, just below the ribbon with the Mandarin symbol for “rabbit.”
Red Minions Lunar New Year Shirt – $25
This shirt is vividly red and shows all 12 Chinese zodiac signs, each represented by a different Minion wearing a costume. They are, in the following order: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig. The corners of the design are golden.
The year 2023 is the year of the rabbit. If your Chinese horoscope is that of the Rabbit, 2023 might be a lucky year for you. The color red is also a sign of good fortune to come.
Youth Lunar New Year Minion Tee – $20
This t-shirt features the same design as the tank top, but against a solid black background.
Lunar New Year Minion Plush – $20
This plush is a Minion dressed in his classic blue overalls and silver goggles, plus a rabbit ears headband and rabbit paw gloves.
The gloves and headband are fuzzy white.
Lunar New Year Minion Mug – $17
This color block mug features a different Minion dressed as an animal of the Chinese zodiac in each square.
The background colors are yellow, green, pink, orange, purple, red, and teal.
All of the Minions are wearing a hat or headband on their head, but some have extra accessories like wings or a tail.
The handle of the mug is white.
The inside is yellow with “Universal Studios” at the edge.
Lunar New Year Minion Journal – $13
The journal is yellow with the same color block Minion design on the cover.
The logo for Despicable Me Minion Mayhem is on the back.
Lunar New Year Minion Tote Bag – $26
This tote bag features the Minion dressed as a rabbit.
The bag is a white canvas, while the Minion is a fuzzy fabric with an embroidered black outline.
It has yellow handles and a yellow strap with the Mandarin symbol for “rabbit” at the end.
“Universal Studios” is printed on the other side of the bag.
Lunar New Year Minion Popcorn Bucket – $39.99
This popcorn bucket is a reskin of the previously released Minion car bucket.
It features Minions in and hanging off of a blue car. The Minion on the back is wearing rabbit accessories.
The side of the car is decorated with Lunar New Year stickers.
A red rocket decorated with a Minion dressed as a rabbit is tied to the top of the car.
The bucket has a red strap with yellow clips.
The license plate reads “TOP-SCRT.”
The strap is decorated with golden stars and fireworks. “Universal Studios” is printed in colorful letters with the “i”s replaced by a carrot and firework and the “u” in “Studios” replaced by a rabbit.
Guests can get free popcorn with their popcorn pail on the day of purchase.
Lunar New Year Minion Pin – $9
The pin is the Minion dressed as a rabbit holding a carrot.
Zodiac Minion Keychains – $8 each
There are eight keychains, each representing one of these animals of the Chinese zodiac: Rat, Snake, Goat, Dog, Horse, Rabbit, Rooster, and Pig. Missing are the Ox, Tiger, Dragon, and Monkey.
Though most countries and cultures that celebrate Lunar New Year use these 12 animals of the Chinese zodiac, Vietnam actually has the cat instead of the rabbit on their calendar.
Myths vary but it’s said that the rat prevented the cat from joining the zodiac by tricking it or pushing it into a river.
Like the pin, each keychain is shaped like a Minion dressed as their corresponding zodiac animal.
The apparel of the Lunar New Year Minions collection is also available at Universal Orlando Resort.
