The Lunar New Year 2023 festivities have begun at Disney California Adventure, which means the return of Mulan’s Lunar New Year Procession! Watch the video below for the full experience, or read on for a complete description!
Throughout the whole procession, a narrator describes the connection between Mulan and the Lunar New Year. The parade begins with a special banner, carried by two Cast Members in traditional costume.
Next is a trio of dancers dressed to resemble moonflowers.
The elegant dancing is complimented by the colorful dresses.
After that is a team of dragon dancers, carrying a dragon puppet above their head.
Then, a team of dancers perform with rainbow-colored scarves.
Because 2023 marks the Year of the Rabbit in the Chinese and Korean zodiac, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit gets a place of honor on a small float.
He wears the same outfit that can be seen at his meet and greet in Paradise Gardens Park.
He’s followed by a team of flag twirlers and martial arts demonstrators.
After another moonflower dancer, Mulan and Mushu appear on the centerpiece float of the procession.
Mushu couldn’t help but strike a pose when he saw us.
The back of the float has a special appearance by none other than Goofy, who wears a traditional Chinese outfit.
What’s a Lunar New Year party without lion dancers? A blue and yellow lion strut their stuff during the procession.
Finally, after a group of dancers with colorful parasols, the procession comes to a close.
Mulan’s Lunar New Year Procession runs daily through Wednesday, February 15.
