Upon the waters of World Showcase Lagoon sits Spice Road Table, a Mediterranean eatery across from the heart of the Morocco pavilion. An ornate terrace with beautiful views of World Showcase invites passersby to sample fare from along the Spice Road. Luckily for my family, the indoor section where we dined boasts the same scenic views. From our table, we watched as Spaceship Earth lit the park with Points of Light. 

We treated ourselves to Spice Road Table’s signature non-alcoholic beverage, mint iced tea, a perfect balance of earthy tea and sweet mint. I prefer tea without an overpowering sugary flavor, so this drink left me satisfied. 

We ordered five plates, but I was most excited to try the naan spreads with naan slices, hummus, chermoula (a mix of cilantro, garlic, olive oil, and lemon), and spiced olives. As expected, the naan was soft and delicious, but the chermoula, which leaned heavily into its garlic gusto to my delight, was the star. The hummus, enhanced by za’atar, a spice medley, was also lovely with a smooth, palatable texture. The delicious olives and spreads elevated this dish from a simple breadbasket to an unparalleled plate. 

The spiced chicken was tender, and the flavors were light yet delicious. I would have preferred a stronger spice, such as harissa, but nevertheless, I savored this dish. Couscous and yogurt sauce accompanied the chicken, both pleasant additions, particularly the yogurt sauce, which contrasted nicely with the spices. My only complaint would be the lack of chicken; it was as if the meat were a garnish for the naan slices and couscous.

The tiropitakia, a Greek, cheese-filled phyllo dough, lacked bold flavor, but I still found myself reaching for more. The cheese was mild but satisfying, while the phyllo was flaky like a croissant. Cucumber tomato relish gave the tiropitakia a fresh flavor profile. This unoffensive dish would be perfect for introducing a child or picky eater to new cuisine. 

The hummus fries, a plant-based dish, were also delightful. The fries were more like falafel than traditional hummus spread, which was a pleasant surprise. A lightly spiced chipotle sauce complemented the falafel and gave the dish a layer of complexity. This was the most filling dish we ordered, which brings me to this restaurant’s pitfall: value. 

Spice Road Table is known for its small plates, but I was expecting appetizer-sized portions instead of hors d’oeuvres. An order of the spiced chicken only came with a few bites of meat, which the accompaniments overshadowed. The naan spreads, of which we ordered two, were served with half a piece of naan per dish, and the tiropitakia consisted of three minuscule phyllo pies.

The only well-portioned dish was the plate of hummus fries. The portion sizes at Spice Road Table are comparable to festival dishes, although the plates here are more expensive than the average festival item. We paid about $75 for four mint iced teas and five meager plates. For about the same price, you could order a large pizza at Via Napoli or a meal for a family of four at Connections Eatery.  

I won’t tell you to skip this restaurant. The experience of sampling delicious food while sitting over the water with a picturesque view of Spaceship Earth was beautiful and unique. If you want a place to escape the crowds and savor a bite, maybe Spiced Road Table is for you. If you are a seasoned park-goer looking for a new experience, consider booking a reservation or a walk-up. For visitors looking for a full meal at a great value, I recommend exploring the menagerie of other dining options World Showcase offers.
