Never has a Disney popcorn bucket caused so much drama and scandal as the Figment popcorn bucket in EPCOT. We should have known how popular it would be based on the hype it got on social media once it was announced, but no one was prepared for the 6-hour-long wait times or eBay re-sales going for hundreds of dollars.

The bucket was released at the 2022 EPCOT Festival of the Arts, and Disney has announced that it’ll return for this year’s festival as well (that festival begins on January 13th)! So how will Disney avoid the chaos of last year’s Figment bucket distribution? Don’t worry — this year, they’ve got a plan.

When the Figment popcorn bucket was first released, the only way to get one was to wait in a multi-hour line at the Pop Eats! booth and hope that supplies lasted until it was your turn to purchase. The bucket was then re-released a couple of weeks later, and at that time it was available on Mobile Order so that guests wouldn’t be stuck waiting in long lines and could instead order one through the My Disney Experience app.

This year, Disney has adjusted their plan and is going to use a virtual queue for the Figment popcorn bucket distribution. Disney frequently uses virtual queues for popular attractions (such as Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind) to prevent excessively long lines, but we don’t often see them used for merchandise drops (although this isn’t the first time it’s happened).

So if you’re hoping to get your hands on one of these popcorn buckets, you’ll need to join the virtual queue on the My Disney Experience app. This will be the ONLY way to get a Figment bucket this year (they won’t be available for regular purchase or on Mobile Order).

A Cast Member told us that you will NOT have to be in EPCOT in order to join the queue — you should be able to join the queue before you arrive at the park. Disney hasn’t yet announced what time the virtual queue will open each day, but we’ll be watching for that information to be released.

Once it’s your turn to buy a bucket, you’ll head to the new Figment’s Inspiration Station at the Odyssey: Art, Food, and Little Sparks of Magic food booth to get your Figgy souvenir.
