We Ate Over $20 in Food to Get a Prize in EPCOT. Was It Worth the Cost?

Want to get a FREE prize for eating food in Disney World? Yes, it’s a very real thing and we’re going to show you just how to do it!

Deconstructed Key Lime Pie at The Deconstructed Dish

The 2023 EPCOT International Festival of the Arts has officially begun and will be available through February 20th, 2023. There are lots of food booths to get treats from throughout the Festival and there are new booths and new treats to try, but if you want to get rewarded for your munching, there’s ONE thing you need to know about.

The Rules

The Wonderful Walk of Colorful Cuisine is a food challenge of sorts. Basically, what you’ll need to do is buy at least 5 of the 7 dishes that are part of this challenge (we’ll go through those in detail below).

As you buy each dish, make sure to get a corresponding stamp from that booth in your Festival Passport!

Wonderful Walk of Colorful Cuisine

Once you’ve bought at least 5 of the 7 dishes, you can bring your stamped Festival Passport to the Deco Delights Food Studio! That’s where you’ll be able to obtain your prize — yes, you get a FREE prize for EATING! It’s paradise! (Well…maybe! More on the prize in a second.)

Keep in mind, this challenge does NOT need to be completed in a single visit. Instead, you can complete it over time — over the course of 1 trip or multiple trips. Just remember to bring back that Festival Passport so you can collect all of the stamps you need, and keep in mind that the Festival only runs through February 20th, 2023, so you’ll need to complete it by that date!

Festival of the Arts

Let’s get into the details of the dishes and the prize now.

The Dishes

Here’s a full list of the dishes that qualify for the Wonderful Walk of Colorful Cuisine and our thoughts on each one!

Gourmet Landscapes – Red Stamp

At Gourmet Landscapes, the participating dish is the Blood Orange-Braised Beet Tartare with Mustard Vinaigrette, Pickled Clamshell Mushrooms, and Golden Beets. It’s priced at $5.50 and is plant-based and gluten/wheat friendly.

This is a returning dish, though there are a few description changes — for example, this year it is a “tartare” while last year it was a “carpaccio.” Also, last year crostini was included, but that was not included this year.

Blood Orange-braised Beet Tartare

When we had the dish in 2022, it was, unfortunately, not our favorite. But this year, things went a bit better! First, the dish is beautiful — so it gets points there. And in terms of taste, we felt like the flavors blended together really well. The seeds added some spice and there was a bit of sweetness too. It’s unique and not one we’d rush to order again, but if you love beets, you may want to give it a try!

Moderne (NEW) – Orange Stamp

Over at Moderne (a new booth for the year), you’ll find Pan-Seared Scallops with Vanilla-Butternut Squash Purée, Brown Butter Cauliflower Purée, and Lime Foam. While the booth is new, this item isn’t! In 2022, it was over at The Artist’s Table. It is priced at $7.50 this year.

Pan-seared Scallops with vanilla-butternut squash purée, brown butter cauliflower purée, and lime foam

When we had this dish in 2022, it was good. But this year, things got BETTER. The scallops were SO good. They had a great texture — a little chewy, but not too much. And the purees added a great vegetable element.

It was light, delicious, and something we’d totally order over and over again!

Vibrante & Vivido: Encanto Cocina – Yellow Stamp

At Vibrante & Vivido, the participating item is the Chorizo and Potato Empanada with Turmeric Aïoli and Annatto Aïoli. This is another returning dish. It’ll cost you $6.75.

Chorizo and Potato Empanada with turmeric aïoli and annatto aïoli

This was a bit hit with us last year, and this year it was delicious once again! The portion size is pretty good, it’s wonderfully spicy, and the empanada is deliciously flaky too.

It got a BIG A+ from us last year and we are so happy it returned this year.

The Deconstructed Dish – Green Stamp

Want to get a deconstructed dish that qualifies for the food challenge? Go for the returning Deconstructed Key Lime Pie with Flexible Key Lime Curd, “Key Lime” Mousse, Graham Cracker Cake, and Meringues. It’s priced at $6.25.

Deconstructed Key Lime Pie at The Deconstructed Dish

This is a fabulous dessert! The mousse is light and refreshing, the graham cracker cake adds another layer of flavor and texture to the dish, and overall it’s so tasty. Plus, it’s easily one of the prettiest things you’ll eat all day!

It’s a great pick if you’re looking for something sweet that qualifies for the Wonderful Walk of Colorful Cuisine.

Deco Delights – Blue Stamp

Want another qualifying dessert? Consider checking out the Orange Mousse with Lemon Cake and Raspberry Meringues from Deco Delights! This is a returning item and is $5.

Orange Mousse with Lemon Cake and Raspberry Meringues

This is a truly Instagram-worthy snack with those BRIGHT and bold colors! When we tried it in 2022, it was actually our favorite thing at the entire Deco Delights booth. In 2023, our feelings were…a little different.

While it was the most interesting item at the booth, the mousse had a strange texture that almost felt like a fake marshmallow. The citrus flavor on it was nice, albeit a bit artificial. The lemon cake was unfortunately on the drier side and the biscuit was nearly too hard to cut. But the best part was arguably the Raspberry Meringues. These had a freeze-dried texture to them, were very fun, and had a STRONG berry flavor that we really enjoyed.

So Good!

It isn’t one we’d run to again, but if you like the idea of those flavors and textures then it might be for you!

Pop Eats – Indigo Stamp

Our next dish takes us to Pop Eats, with the returning Almond Frangipane Cake layered with Raspberry Jam and Belgian Chocolate. It is priced at $4.75 this year. It’s reminiscent of Mondrian’s Composition with Red, Blue, and Yellow and has become a dessert many consider iconic to this Festival. For that reason, it might be a dish that you feel compelled to try, but allow us to give you a few warnings!

Almond Frangipane Cake

Though we’ve generally enjoyed this in the past, it was VERY dense this year and definitely had a STRONG almond flavor. It wasn’t quite moist and wasn’t quite dry — it was just somewhere in the middle with all of that denseness. The biggest note here is how strong that almond flavor is. If you don’t love almonds, heed our advice and pick something else on the Wonderful Walk of Colorful Cuisine to try!

Figment’s Inspiration Station at the Odyssey: Art, Food and Little Sparks of Magic (NEW) – Violet Stamp

And FINALLY, our last stop takes us to a NEW booth — Figment’s Inspiration Station — for a returning item, the Pop’t Art, a Sugar Cookie with Blueberry Filling. It’s priced at $4.50 this year. In the past, this cookie has been over at Pop Art, but it has shifted over in 2023.

In 2022, the filling was chocolate hazelnut, but this year it’s a blueberry filling!

Pop’t Art!

When we’ve had it in the past we’ve felt like it’s fallen short of the deliciousness of the Lunch Box Tarts at Woody’s Lunch Box in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, but this year it SURPRISED US! We actually enjoyed it MORE than the popular Lunch Box Tarts (what?! we know!!).

The filling-to-shell ratio was good and the shell was cakier in texture than you might expect but still tasty. It’s basically a fancy Pop Tart — not something that’ll necessarily blow your mind, but pretty good!

Overall

Again, remember you don’t need to get all of these items. Instead, just 5 of the 7 will qualify you for your FREE prize!

When you’re ready, head to Deco Delights and you’ll get your prize — the Artist’s Palette Cookie, as well as a smoothie in a souvenir cup.

Your Prize!

Unfortunately, the cookie just didn’t hit the mark for us. While the design is undoubtedly fun and beautiful, the cookie itself was very crumbly and extremely (we mean EXTREMELY) dry. One reporter described it as having created a dessert in their mouth upon biting into it…so…yeah…not ideal.

The fondant was also incredibly hard and basically just had the flavor of sweetness without anything else. It’s a cute cookie, but it might not exactly taste the best. But just because the cookie wasn’t our favorite doesn’t necessarily mean you shouldn’t complete the Wonderful Walk of Colorful Cuisine. Let’s talk about that next part of the prize.

Completer Cookie

The “smoothie” you get for completing this challenge is a mixture of 3 berries, we were able to confirm that it does include blueberries and raspberries.

It wasn’t as sweet as we expected, which was actually good. It had an almost bittersweet flavor to it. In terms of texture, it was thicker than juice but not quite as thick as a smoothie. Think along the lines of a Naked drink (if you’ve ever had one of those!). It wasn’t necessarily bad but also wasn’t our favorite. It was just…okay.

Wonderful Walk Souvenir Cup and Smoothie

The really cool thing here is that souvenir cup. You get to keep the cup the smoothie comes in and it is VERY cute. (Plus, you got to eat colorful food all day!).

Is It Worth It?

Overall, you’ll spend between $26 and $31 to complete this challenge. Whether the completer prize is worth that cost is something only YOU can decide.

If you were planning to get 5 of these 7 dishes anyway, then this is totally worth it. Or if you absolutely NEED that souvenir cup, then eat away to grab it. Just know that the smoothie and cookie might not exactly be what you’d hoped for.

Completer Cookie

In terms of the 7 qualifying eats, while we don’t necessarily love every single item, many of them are quite good, so you’ll have a decent amount of tasty choices to pick from.

Our top picks would probably be the Pan-Seared Scallops, Chorizo and Potato Empanada, Deconstructed Key Lime Pie, and Pop’t Art. What would yours be?

Pop’t Art: Sugar Cookie with blueberry filling

Just keep in mind that only 1 dish on this challenge is plant-based, so plant-based eaters will need to bring a friend if they want to complete this particular challenge.

Overall, if you don’t have any dietary restrictions, the Wonderful Walk of Colorful Cuisine can be a fun way to push yourself to eat items that maybe weren’t on your must-get list — stretching yourself beyond your comfort zone to try something NEW and get a prize while you’re at it!
