Sure, we love visiting Disney World and Disneyland, but sometimes you gotta’ spring for something just a little more…tropical.
And we’re not talking tropical like The Enchanted Tiki Room, we’re talking tropical like Disney’s Aulani Resort in Hawaii. We had a chance to visit this beautiful resort recently, and even got to dine with Mickey and friends during a character breakfast at Makahiki — The Bounty of the Islands. Here’s what that was like!
We’ve had dinner here before, but as you may know, a character breakfast is its own thing. Why? Because it gives you a great chance to meet the characters and spend quality time with them. Sure, you can meet characters all over the resort, but you tend to get a little more time with each character when you dine with them.
You’ll find Makahiki on the first floor of the main building of the resort, right next to the ‘Ōlelo Room. You can choose to sit outside at a table overlooking the koi pond or inside. Inside, you’ll find some gorgeous murals that celebrate local art and culture.
Mickey will greet you as soon as you check in, meaning you’ll get this character experience started with the Big Cheese himself. We love his Hawaiian-inspired duds!
Before you are seated, you’ll get some quality time with Minnie, too! We LOVE her outfit!
While you eat, other characters roam around, like Chip…
…and Dale!
The meal itself is prix fixe.
It includes a Basket of Mini Pastries, including a coconut danish, guava danish, blueberry muffin, and butter croissant. You’ll also get Sliced Season Fruits and Berries, including pineapple, cantaloupe, papaya, blackberries, raspberries, and strawberries.
You choose your own entree, and we went for the Eggs Your Way, which includes two cage-free eggs and a choice of bacon, pork link sausage, Portuguese sausage, chicken apple sausage or ham, and herb-roasted potatoes.
We also got the Belgian Style Waffle, which came with fresh berries, country cream, and warm Vermont maple syrup.
A variety of beverages are also available, including POG Juice (gotta’ have that POG juice for a Disney breakfast, right?).
Overall, this is a great way to meet characters in a more casual setting — it’s also a great way to end your vacation if you’re flying out that day. You get a big meal plus some final fun memories with characters to take home with you.
