VelociCoaster opened in June 2021 in the Jurassic Park area of Universal’s Islands of Adventure. It was constructed on the lagoon side of the Jurassic Park Discovery Center, occupying the space formerly used for the Triceratops Encounter.

The official description reads, “Speeding through the jungle, rising high above the terrain, it’s the apex predator of roller coasters: the Jurassic World VelociCoaster. Now you can board your vehicle for a high-speed dash through the park’s raptor paddock. Feel the rush of the hunt as you race alongside these nimble predators, twisting and soaring above the land and water.”

The coaster was designed by Intamin, who also worked with Universal on Harry Potter and the Escape From Gringotts and Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure. It has a minimum height requirement of 51″.

The queue takes guests through an InGen facility and features video cameos from Owen Grady (Chris Pratt), Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard), and Dr. Wu (BD Wong). You can watch a full tour of the queue below.

Guests must secure all belongings in lockers. VelociCoaster has large lockers available for rental inside the Discovery Center as well as small, double-sided complimentary lockers in the queue.

The coaster has four inversions, including its infamous “Mosasaurus roll,” a 155-foot tophat, and goes up to 70 miles per hour. The launch goes from 0 to 50 mph in two seconds. The tallest drop is 140 feet.

Jurassic World VelociCoaster uses Child Swap with an indoor waiting room where guests can watch “Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous,” a kids’ animated show, while they wait for the other party.

Want to know where to look for Easter Eggs in the queue? We were lucky enough to take a VelociCoaster Facility Tour, where a Team Member took us through the InGen building to point out details.

Velociraptor fans can also visit the Discovery Center to see if any eggs are ready to hatch at the Nursery and learn some dinosaur fun facts from the Geneticists. There’s also a Raptor Encounter, where guests can meet and take photographs with Bravo or Blue.
