The Florida Governor, Ron DeSantis, will schedule a special legislative session in a move expected to finalize the outstanding decisions surrounding the dissolution and self-government of Disney’s Reedy Creek Improvement District, where Walt Disney World resides.

Disney’s political opposition to a movement by the DeSantis government sparked a feud that has resulted in brutal retaliation by the government. A new campaign spontaneously emerged, moving to remove The Walt Disney Company’s rights to self-regulate and govern the Reedy Creek Improvement District. The district and its governing power have been in place since 1967.

DeSantis addressed the media in a news conference on Thursday, “We’re not going to have a corporation controlling its own government,” said the governor. “So the state’s going to have a board to run it. So Disney will not have self-governing status anymore.” DeSantis went on to comment further, “We’re not going to bend the knee to woke executives in California.”

No matter which side you see it from, the lines are slightly more blurred than they might seem. The government won’t be able to dissolve the district without assuming its debts which then will leave taxpayers paying the price for the reactive flex of power by DeSantis. Even though a bill was hastily passed last year dissolving Disney’s Reedy Creek along with several other Florida special districts, the changes do not come into effect until June 1st of this year, with many loose ends still outstanding.
