Every Disney World Ride Closure in 2023

Disney is such a magical place for so many reasons — the views, the nostalgia, and of course, the food! However, for many of us, the most exciting part of Disney — like any other theme park — are the rides and attractions!

Mine Train!

Lots of new and exciting things are coming to Disney in 2023, and we know many of you are planning your trip around those opening dates. However, be careful, because there’s something else you should be wary of when planning your trip.

Like anywhere else, Disney closes numerous rides and attractions throughout the parks for routine maintenance and upkeep — so that park visitors like us can be safe and enjoy the rides the same way we did when they were brand new.

There are several ride and attraction closures happening in 2023, and we’ve listed them all out for you! While most of them are expected to open again some time this year, just make sure you’re aware of those dates when planning so that you aren’t disappointed when you arrive. The good news is, many of these closures will be easy to avoid depending on when you’re planning a park visit.

Magic Kingdom Attraction Closures

Although Magic Kingdom doesn’t have many planned closures for 2023, it does have one of the longest planned closures.

Splash Mountain

As many of you already know, Splash Mountain permanently closed on January 23rd, 2023. Although we were sad to say goodbye, the same flume-type ride is currently being reimagined to become Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, which is set to open in late 2024!

Enchanted Tales With Belle

Enchanted Tales With Belle has been closed since 2020, when the park shut down for health-related concerns regarding COVID-19. However, this immersive retelling of Beauty and the Beast is set to re-open on February 9th, 2023. We can’t wait!

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster

This fan-favorite thrill ride is set to close on February 20th, 2023. This is only for routine maintenance and upkeep, though, so don’t fret! You can rock along with Aerosmith again sometime this summer — re-opening date to be announced.

For The First Time In Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration

This popular interactive show closed January 9th, 2023 and is set to re-open again on January 28th, 2023. As long as you’re visiting after the end of January, you’re all set to sing your heart out with Elsa and the rest of the Frozen gang.

Voyage Of The Little Mermaid

This live show featuring special effects, music, and characters from The Little Mermaid is an attraction that never made a return after park-closures in 2020. There is still no re-opening date set in place. However, if you’d like to meet Ariel and Prince Eric, you can find them in Ariel’s Grotto in Magic Kingdom!

Kali River Rapids

This water ride can leave you SOAKED — and it isn’t out of the ordinary for this one to close. Typically, these water rides have planned seasonal refurbishments — and this is one of those situations. Kali River Rapids closed on January 9th but should open again in mid-March — just in time for spring!

Try not to get wet!

Typhoon Lagoon Water Park

Typhoon Lagoon closed on November 13th, 2022 and does not yet have a re-opening date. As of right now, Blizzard Beach is open with new refurbishments, so that’s a great alternative if the water parks are a must-do on your Disney vacation.

Disney’s Skyliner

Okay, so, this one isn’t really a ride — but we love it so much we’ll count it as one! The Skyliner underwent routine maintenance on January 22nd but is set to re-open on January 29th. A short and sweet closure — but can cause some inconveniences, especially if you’re staying at any of the resorts with Skyliner access. If you’re staying at Caribbean Beach Resort, Pop Century, Riviera, or Art of Animation, be mindful of this closure!
