How Will Disney World HIDE EPCOT’s ‘Moana’ Attraction? We Know the Answer

Who’s ready to check in on one of Disney World’s BIGGEST projects?!

Spaceship Earth

We don’t know about you, but we’re definitely ready to walk through the middle of EPCOT again! The park has been covered in construction walls for the past few years while it undergoes a major transformation, but now we’re seeing some big progress with the projects. Let’s take a look at Journey of Water — Inspired by Moana!

If you take a ride into EPCOT on the Monorail, you’ll get a birds-eye view of the park, and that includes a peek behind the construction walls! We typically like to snap a few pics of what’s going on to share with all of you.

Here we go!

First up, we have to mention the progress at CommuniCore Hall. This large building is going to be home to festival spaces as well as character meet-and-greet locations once completed. The structure is coming along nicely and you get a real feel for how large the space will be.

It’s making baby steps toward completion!

Now, we move next door to Journey of Water — Inspired by Moana! This walk-through attraction will allow guests to interact with water in new ways that we haven’t seen before in the parks. And we’re definitely recognizing the Moana theming among the ongoing construction. (Do you see Te Fiti’s back in the background?)

Now on to Moana!

There are now several awnings installed over parts of the attraction, and we’ve seen a LOT more greenery arrive in the past few weeks. The planters around the edges of the attraction are pretty well-established now as well.

We’re spotting some differences!

One of the main changes is the pouring of concrete for the walkway through the attraction. We’d seen part of it poured a few months ago, but now it looks like they’re continuing work on that part of the project again. In the places where concrete has not been poured, you can see that the dirt has been leveled to prepare for that next step.

More concrete has been poured!

Generally, we now have a much better feel for the flow of the attraction! The rock structures seem to be all in place and with the new trees filling out the in-between space, things are really coming together. We expect that they’ll be done with the basics in a few months and then they can move on to the testing phases.

We’re excited about this one.

As the monorail completes its loop, you can also see a bit of how Imagineers plan to conceal the attraction from the eyes of those walking through the park. A main concrete walkway to World Nature has been poured out, and there are trees getting planted along the edge. Disney loves to hide things behind a man-made forest!

The edge of the attraction.

We’re excited to see what EPCOT looks like when all these projects are completed and we can once again walk through the middle of the park. It’s going to be SO much easier to navigate! And of course, we’ll be ready to check out the new attractions and offerings for ourselves.

Stay tuned to DFB for more updates on Journey of Water — Inspired by Moana, along with the rest of the EPCOT transformation. We’ll make sure to let you know as soon as we get official opening dates for everything!
