Sometimes we get so caught up in rushing through our Disney theme park days that we miss some pretty cool things. It seems like many of us go through our planning trying to get the most out of that park ticket which might mean that we purchase Disney Genie+ for the day, allowing us to utilize Lightning Lanes for many of the popular attractions instead of waiting in the standby lines.
Trying to get the most bang for your buck makes sense, but sometimes, slowing down is a good thing too.
Did you know that while you’re breezing by in the Lightning Lanes, you could be missing some pretty detailed storytelling built into that attraction’s standby queue?
I know, I know, time is money. I’m a big proponent of that when I’m on vacation at Walt Disney World too, but so many of those details we see in the parks are a big part of what made me fall in love with Walt Disney World in the first place.
For me personally, the attractions whose standby queues I love are primarily in Fantasyland at Magic Kingdom; Peter Pan’s Flight, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train are my top three.
When the standby queue was redone inside Peter Pan’s Flight, part of the story was added, allowing guests a detailed look at Wendy’s bedroom with special effects, and I absolutely love it. This might sound funny to some of you, but I really love the “honey wall” in The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. It goes up high, so you can squish the honey above while the little ones can play with the lower part of the wall; it’s fun! Lastly, the interactive games in the line for Seven Dwarfs Mine Train can be a lot of fun to play with.
Now, I’m not saying that I think it’s worth waiting in line for hours just so you can do these things, but if you’ve never gone through the standby queues at certain attractions, I do recommend that you try it at least once during Early Entry or Extended Evening Hours, or even at a special event.
Now I’d love to hear about your favorite standby queues and what you love about them!
