One of the great strengths of any Disney movie is the incredible music that is bestowed upon us. From grand orchestral scores to quirky, story-telling lyrics, The Walt Disney Company is known for providing dynamic and award-winning soundtracks. However, there is a catch. Occasionally, those brilliantly crafted masterpieces can get stuck in your head, driving you completely and utterly insane. I call it the Disney Earworm Effect. I am sure there is some sort of mathematical approach – for people who are way smarter than I am – that allows them to formulate the perfect song that is pleasing and impressive at first but then burrows deep into your subconscious where it will remain for all eternity until sporadically activated; like a sleeper cell. When it does, it swims around in there, looping around and multiplying in strength like a virus.
The songs that attach to our brains are different for everyone. In the parks, most would likely agree that “it’s a small world” hosts the most advanced example of the Disney Earworm Effect, but when it comes to Disney films, fans are more divided. Personally, the top spot doesn’t belong to Frozen’s Let It Go. Despite my daughter having the playlist on permanent repeat in her younger years, it doesn’t cause me the most discomfort. I’m going to hold off on telling you the Disney Movie Earworm that gets to me the most; I want to hear what you think first.
