One of the great things about The Simpsons having lasted as a half-hour animated sitcom for nearly three and a half decades now is that the show gets to flesh out some of its underutilized supporting characters. Case in point: Carl Carlson (who only recently became voiced by Alex Désert, replacing Harry Shearer)– outside of being […]
We bring you a lot of stories every single day. Sometimes it’s hard to keep up. So in case you missed anything from our feed, we have rounded up all our stories in one place to get the news at a glance. Here is your Daily Recap for Sunday, February 26, 2023.
At the center of EPCOT, CommuniCore Hall and Journey of Water, Inspired by “Moana” are on their way to a late 2023 opening.
World Celebration will also have new gardens and Dreamer’s Point, featuring a new statue of Walt Disney, directly behind Spaceship Earth.
A small structure is coming together near CommuniCore Hall but seems to be separate from it.
CommuniCore Hall & Plaza
The name CommuniCore is a reference to two pavilions that were part of EPCOT on opening day. They were later reimagined into Innoventions before eventually being demolished. The new CommuniCore Hall and Plaza will serve as a multi-functional space that will be used during the park’s various festivals. The hall will be home to a Mickey & Friends meet and greet, a demo kitchen, a mixology bar, a gallery space, and more.
A long awning now sticks out of the CommuniCore building, towards the small structure and over a circle of concrete constructed earlier this month. The awning may eventually become a full wing of the building.
The main part of the building has yet to be enclosed, but we can see the shape thanks to steel supports and concrete elevator shafts.
Grids of steel provide the base for future wall paneling.
CommuniCore Hall and Plaza are on the west side of World Celebration, bordering World Nature.
In the concept art above, CommuniCore is the dark building on the left. Creations Shop and Connections are both within the building on the right.
Journey of Water, Inspired by “Moana”
Journey of Water, Inspired by “Moana” will be next to CommuniCore Hall but is part of World Nature.
Themed lanterns were hung from some of the curved lampposts a few weeks ago, but some of the posts remain wrapped in plastic.
Brown sidewalks are being paved and lined with short logs or rocks. This will be a walkthrough attraction, leading guests past water features and a Te Fiti statue. The rocky structure in the photo above is at the entrance to the attraction.
The concept art shows how water will cascade over this rockwork.
Another paved sidewalk goes past the attraction towards Dreamer’s Point. This sidewalk has been lined with trees, partially blocking a concrete wall from view.
More plants and theming will presumably be added to block the rest of the wall.
Across the sidewalk from Journey of Water is a service station for the water system.
A fence has been constructed around the service station. Another paved sidewalk is past the service station, directly behind Spaceship Earth.
The above concept art shows Journey of Water at the center and CommuniCore Hall to the right.
What are you most looking forward to opening this year at EPCOT? Let us know in the comments.

A new Daisy Duck Munchling that reimagines the beloved Disney character as a strawberry-topped dessert is expected to arrive soon on shopDisney.
The latest Munchling to be teased by shopDisney features a winking Daisy Duck dessert treat, topped with a red strawberry glaze, fresh strawberry features, and a dollop of whipped cream. Not to be confused with Donald, this Disney Munchling features Daisy’s pink and purple bow.
Daisy Duck Munchling
Another Daisy Duck Munchling was released as part of the Fruity Finds Munchlings Collection last month, reimagining Daisy as a pineapple-topped tropical drink. The Fruity Finds collection was released simultaneously with a Garden Finds Munchling Collection that featured Disney and Pixar characters as garden-variety vegetables.
The song, which was originally composed for the controversial Disney film, “Song of the South”, was perhaps most widely recognized as part of the Splash Mountain attraction based on the film. It has been replaced at the end of the “Magic Happens” parade with “You Can Fly” from Disney’s “Peter Pan”.
At the time, Disney released a statement regarding the removal of the Academy Award-winning Best Original Song stating, “The removal of the song from Downtown Disney’s background music is part of a continuous process to deliver an environment that features stories that are relevant and inclusive.”
Known as the theme song of Splash Mountain, “Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah” has been the subject of critique given the racist undertones of the film it was based on. In fact, “Song of the South” has been locked in the Disney vault since the 1980s due to its idyllic portrayals of Southern plantation life in the late 1800s Reconstruction Era. The song “Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah” itself was likely influenced by the chorus of the pre-Civil War folk song “Zip Coon”.
Aside from a minor costume and choreography refresh, the removal of “Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah” from the finale of the “Magic Happens” parade was the most noticeable change from its 2020 version. Watch the full updated version below:
“Magic Happens” will be performed at Disneyland Park twice each day at 3:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

After a weekend of weather cancellations, the “Magic Happens” parade has returned to Disneyland this afternoon, being performed for the first time since its initial two-week run in 2020.
“Magic Happens” debuted at Disneyland Park in early 2020 as the first new parade to hit the park in nearly nine years. Created as part of the 65th Anniversary celebration, the daytime parade lined Main Street U.S.A. for a mere two weeks before the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic forced a hiatus that lasted for nearly three years.
When parks reopened, “Magic Happens” was noticeably missing from the lineup. The procession’s highly-anticipated return was announced at D23 Expo 2022 last year after a year of speculation. The parade was scheduled to return this past Friday, February 24, but the first public performance was canceled due to inclement weather. Unfavorable weather conditions led to “Magic Happens” performances being canceled on Saturday, as well, but today was the lucky day for guests hoping to catch the parade’s return.
Mickey and Friends
Mickey Mouse leads the way on the first float of the processional, gliding along on glistening swirls of magic emanating from a giant, iridescent magical hat.
The hat stands 15 feet tall from atop the parade’s first float and is covered in 300 shimmering LED lights for an extra dose of magic.
Minnie, Donald, Goofy, Pluto, Chip, and Dale follow closely behind in colorful costumes. Magic is clearly the muse for these elaborate celestial-themed outfits, but they don’t seem to stop Mickey & Friends from sticking to their choreography.
Moana
On her voyager canoe, Moana journeys forth on the crest of a towering wave, inspired by beautiful koa wood carvings and inset with dazzling, animated glimpses into the magic the ocean holds. This is the first full-scale “Moana”-inspired float to be created for a Disney park.
Joining Moana on her journey is Maui, who travels along on his own magical piece of the islands with Moana’s adorable pet pig, Pua. Maui also made his official Disneyland Resort debut in the 2020 debut of “Magic Happens.” Hei Hei was also spotted as part of the “Magic Happens” return.
Coco
Inspired by Disney and Pixar’s “Coco”, the next float features Miguel as he strums away on the guitar of Ernesto de la Cruz.
This spectacular float connects the Land of the Living and the Land of the Dead with a vibrant marigold bridge. Alebrije spirit animals join the procession alongside Miguel’s dog, Dante. When “Magic Happens” debuted in 2020, the parade marked the first time the film “Coco” was used as a float for a Disney Parks parade.
Frozen
Fans of “Frozen” and “Frozen II” will be happy to spot Anna and Elsa as they explore the mysteries of the Enchanted Forest. Their friends Kristoff, Sven, and Olaf are also featured in the “Magic Happens” performance.
Other iconic characters from classic Disney films take to Main Street U.S.A as part of the “Magic Happens” parade. Princess Aurora, Prince Phillip, the three Good Fairies, Aladdin, Genie, Peter Pan, Tinker Bell, Pinocchio, and Fairy Godmother are all among the characters featured in today’s performance. Disneyland guests seem to be particularly excited to see Arthur and Merlin from Disney’s “The Sword and the Stone”, as Arthur heroically pulls the blade from the rock.

Todrick Hall, who co-composed two of the songs featured in the “Magic Happens” parade, was present at today’s afternoon performance.
Pending any global pandemics, weather delays, or cancellations, “Magic Happens” will be performed twice each day at 3:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

The planned return of the Magic Happens parade to Disneyland this weekend didn’t go quite as planned, with Friday and Saturday’s performances being canceled due to inclement weather. Still, for many performers in the parade, it feels like a homecoming. An article by The Orange County Register shares that more than half of the performers in the parade […]
