Over Half of Original Performers Returning to ‘Magic Happens’ at Disneyland

Over half of the almost 100 original performers are returning to the “Magic Happens” parade at Disneyland, Orange County Register reports.

magic happens dining package

“Magic Happens” debuted in early 2020 and was only performed for two weeks before Disneyland Resort closed due to COVID-19. The parade is scheduled to return this week, although its first public performance was canceled due to inclement weather.

The Orange County Register spoke to performer Jenn Acevedo about the parade’s return. Acevedo said, “It feels new and the same. It’s a weird feeling. It doesn’t feel like it was three years ago.”

“It feels like a dream,” said Acevedo. “I get to come back and relive the opening again.” Acevedo is an ocean dancer in the “Moana” section of the parade and said, “I do the same exact thing in the same exact spot, which I’m really happy about.”

Acevedo was a new hire at Disneyland in 2020. She taught dance classes via Zoom while Disneyland Resort was closed. She returned to work on the limited run of “Main Street Electrical Parade” in 2022 and also worked on “Fantasmic!”

“There’s a lot of returning people that still want to do it,” she said of the parade, “loved it the first time and really want to live it again.” When it came to re-learning the parade’s choreography, Acevedo said, “All of it came back. It was just like getting the gears moving again, but it was muscle memory as well.”

There’s a mix of new and returning performers in “Magic Happens.” Acevedo said, “People that were in it before have been really helping the new people and really trying to work as a team to get this thing up and running.”

The return of “Magic Happens” has been highly anticipated by fans, and was finally announced at D23 Expo 2022 last year after a year of speculation on its return.

“Magic Happens” features stunning floats with Disney characters, imaginative (and extremely catchy) music co-composed by singer-songwriter Todrick Hall, artistic costumes, and modern choreography. The parade is unique in that it’s able to run both during the day and at night thanks to lighting on the floats. Plenty of properties are represented in the parade, including “Moana,” “Coco,” “Frozen,” and “The Sword in the Stone.”

Watch the first performance of “Magic Happens” in 2020 below.

Update on MASSIVE Disney World Road Project

Do you drive around Disney World?

Do you drive to Disney World?

With more and more traffic headed to Disney World every year, though, it’s become evident that some of the roads need to be updated. That’s exactly what Disney plans on doing, though, with a massive project that will drastically improve the roads and traffic around the resort.

According to The Orlando Business Journal, Disney’s Reedy Creek Improvement District just approved a $176 million project to improve roadways around Disney World. This project would be one of the largest projects ever for the district.

Driving to Hollywood Studios

The district approved a $74.5 million increase to its first budget for what will be the third phase of the extension of World Drive North. That includes widening the lanes that lead through Disney World to Magic Kingdom from two to four lanes.

Magic Kingdom Entrance

The project will include approximately construction of “approximately 1.6 miles of four-lane roadway and a four-lane, roughly 100-foot vehicular bridge,” as well as “mechanically stabilized earth retaining walls, and three roundabouts.” It also includes protection structures for utilities, the relocation of underground utility conveyance systems, lighting, pavement marking, landscaping, and more.

Disney World entrance

The district increased its budget due to inflation, as well as to include temporary installations to “cover for other infrastructure being replaced during the project.” The extra funds will also go to “cure” disruptions that happen once the construction begins.

Driving around Disney World

Disney has not yet released a timeline for when it hopes to have the road work done, but it’s expected that the work will take about two years after it has started.

Although Disney’s Reedy Creek Improvement District currently governs things around Disney World, it will soon be completely revamped after the state of Florida voted to do so. When the law is made official, the RCID is set to change its name and the Florida Governor will be able to appoint five members to the board. Some of the board’s powers will also change.

How that will affect the future of projects like this remains to be seen, but we’ll continue to keep an eye on the developing situation, so stay tuned to DFB for more.

Your Favorite Snack Might Already Be GONE From Disney World

Are you sad that Disney World’s 50th Anniversary Celebration ends in a month?

The 50th Anniversary Celebration is winding down

The celebration did last a full 18 months, after all. During that time, we had LOADS of special merchandise, as well as special snacks. Well, we’re now seeing some of those 50th anniversary snacks disappearing from Disney World menus, a sure sign that the big celebration is starting to wind down.

We keep an eye on Disney World menus and check for changes often. We’ve recently noticed that some of the 50th anniversary items are now missing from those menus. First, the Glimmer and Shimmer Pineapple Mousse has been removed from the menu at Trolley Car Cafe in Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Glimmer and Shimmer Pineapple Mousse

We also noticed that the 50th Celebration Chocolate Gateaux is missing from the current menu over at Tiffins in Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

50th Celebration Chocolate Gateaux

The Pineapple Upside-Down Cake at The BOATHOUSE in Disney Springs has also turned up missing.

Pineapple Upside Down Cake

If you’re heading over to Yachtsman Steakhouse at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort, you will no longer be able to order the Celebrating Layers of Magic dessert there.

Celebrating Layers of Magic

Finally, we noticed that the Magic Kingdom Club Eclair is no longer on the menu at Cheshire Cafe in Magic Kingdom. However, you can now find it at Main Street Bakery — at least for now.

It’s still available, just at Main Street Bakery!

We expect to see even more of these snacks disappearing from menus until the end of the celebration on March 31st. We’ll admit we’re a little sad because we’re hoping that some of our favorites end up on permanent menus (hint, hint, Disney!). So if you’re still wanting to try some of these treats, grab them while you still can!

WE KNOW – there are SO many great snacks at Disney World! How do you choose (we don’t want to choose but will blow our budget on Day 1 otherwise)? We’ve got you covered!

DFB Guide and Snacks Bundle

We have reviewed nearly EVERY snack available at Disney World, and we’ve written a series of DFB Guides about them! Check out our DFB Guide to Walt Disney World Dining + Snacks Bundle for all the details you need to plan your snackin’ and spending. You can even download them to your smartphone – it’ll be like we’re right there with you in the parks!

STOP Using These Bathrooms in Disney World

Here at DFB, we want to bring you the MOST IMPORTANT tips for your Disney World vacation.

Tree of Life

Nope, we’re not talking about food — although, we do talk about that a lot. We’re also not here today to share advice for Genie+ or dining reservations or when the least crowded time to visit is (that last one’s a little hard to predict these days anyway). It’s time to talk about one thing and one thing only…BATHROOMS.

They’re a necessity in Disney World, and we all use them, so even if it’s a little taboo, we feel like we need to discuss it. And we’ll be the first to tell you that not all theme park bathrooms are created equal. In fact, we have some STRONG vendettas against certain bathrooms, so we’re sharing some of the most important tips you’ll need for your trip — the restrooms that you should avoid!

Magic Kingdom

Next to Star Traders and Auntie Gravity’s

Let’s start out our list in Magic Kingdom, where we’re heading to Tomorrowland. Perhaps the most popular restrooms over here are the ones by Star Traders…but that’s EXACTLY why you should avoid them! These bathrooms are out in the open, so they’re usually really busy and not always clean. And trust us, you don’t want to wait in line for a bathroom in the heat of summer in Tomorrowland!

Tomorrowland Bathrooms

Instead, we recommend heading over near Space Mountain, where there’s another set of restrooms behind the Rockettower Plaza Stage. These have quite a few stalls and are usually a lot calmer and cleaner than the others in Tomorrowland.

In Storybook Circus

Storybook Circus has SO many things going for it — cute theming, lots of activities for kids, great character meets, etc. But the one thing you should avoid there? The bathrooms! Why? Well, because in our experience, the floor here seems to usually be WET.

There’s a splash pad for kiddos right outside these bathrooms, so they’re constantly being tramped through by slightly damp (or completely soaked) little ones. And since the Walt Disney World Railroad reopened and the station is attached to these bathrooms, we find that they’re a little busier nowadays.

Storybook Circus Restrooms

Instead, there’s a great set of quiet (albeit small) restrooms behind Gaston’s Tavern in New Fantasyland. We promise that they’re usually less of a slip-and-fall hazard.

EPCOT

On Either Side of Spaceship Earth

Moving on to EPCOT, we’ve got some HOT takes on the bathrooms! First of all, we would encourage you to avoid the ones at the front of the park by Spaceship Earth, because both the restrooms to the left and right always seem to be so busy, and there are much better options nearby.

Restrooms in Connections Cafe

If you’re heading toward World Discovery, instead we encourage you to stop inside Connections Eatery. Their restrooms are much newer, have some of the nicest changing tables in Disney World (for those with babies), and they have plenty of stalls. As long as you’re not in there during the meal rush, they’re typically not too crowded.

And if you’re heading toward World Nature, there are some quiet, hidden bathrooms in The Seas Pavilion. Not many people visit them because they’re on the back of the first floor, but they’re a great place to stop away from the masses.

In the Japan Pavilion

One of our strongest bathroom opinions is the way that we feel about the ones in the Japan Pavilion. They. Are. The. WORST. Like, maybe some of the worst in all of Disney World. First of all, you have to walk upstairs and behind Katsura Grill to get there, and then once you get inside they’re dark, usually messy, and only have like two stalls.

Japan Pavilion

Do yourself a favor and skip on going to the bathroom in Japan. Luckily, some of Disney’s BEST restrooms are next door in the American Adventure. Those are massive, clean, and they feel somehow much fancier than many of the other bathrooms in the World Showcase.

Hollywood Studios

On Hollywood Boulevard

We’ll start this section by saying that many of the bathrooms in Hollywood Studios leave much to be desired. But perhaps the worst offenders are the restrooms right after you enter the park on Hollywood Boulevard. Since they’re the first set, they’re typically incredibly crowded and not usually very clean.

On top of that, characters will sometimes appear on the balcony above these restrooms, so they’re occasionally blocked by guests wanting to get photos and videos. It’s just a little chaotic.

Restrooms at the Hollywood Studios entrance

Thankfully, there are some much better restrooms before you enter the park. Outside of security, there’s a set of bathrooms to the left of the entrance, and they’re usually very quiet, with plenty of stalls inside. These are the perfect stop on your way in and out of the park.

Near BaseLine Tap House

Across from BaseLine Tap House, you’ll find a relatively new set of restrooms that tend to be very popular — they’re directly in the walking path of everyone leaving Galaxy’s Edge and Muppets Courtyard. However, they’re unfortunately pretty small and almost always have a line to get inside.

BaseLine Tap House

But there’s a secret that newer guests may not know! On the opposite side of the building with the bathrooms (the side facing Backlot Express), there’s ANOTHER set of bathrooms. They’re much bigger, usually pretty clean, and not nearly as busy as the others. Use that advice wisely.

On Sunset Boulevard

Another set of bathrooms that we loathe? The ones in the middle of Sunset Boulevard, about halfway down the street. For some unknown reason, they’re one of the hottest and stickiest places in all of Disney World, and they’re pretty much always busy.

Sunset Boulevard in Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Save yourself some sweat and use one of the other THREE bathrooms on Sunset Boulevard. There are some next to Tower of Terror and some by Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, but our personal favorites are the relatively unknown ones by Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy. (And while you’re back there, make sure to watch the show — it’s really cute!)

Animal Kingdom

Next to Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures

Finally, we come to Animal Kingdom, where we don’t have too many complaints. The restroom that we like the least is the one next to Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures in Dinoland, U.S.A. This one, like the one on Sunset, is unusually hot and sticky, but it’s also kinda busy and occasionally dirty.

Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures

Instead, make your way to Restaurantosaurus. The dining location’s restroom has an outside entrance as well, and because it’s inside a restaurant, it’s typically much cleaner and has better A/C. On top of that, the restaurant has some great background music that plays in the bathroom as well!

Restaurantosaurus

And as an added little bonus — did you know that Animal Kingdom is the only park that has doors on all their bathrooms? It’s in case an animal escapes into the park. That way guests can barricade themselves in the bathroom for safety!

So there you go — our full list of bathrooms to avoid in the parks and which ones to visit instead. Trust us, we’re definitely experts on this topic! We’ll make sure to keep you updated with any other advice or tips that you need to know before you go.

What’s the Worst Queue to Wait in at Walt Disney World?

We are throwing the mic over to you on the weekends, asking questions and hearing your opinions on some of the hot topics that come up about the theme parks at the Walt Disney World Resort. This week we are looking at queuing areas. Some are brilliantly themed with corridors of art and atmosphere that you wouldn’t want to miss, while others are the opposite experience, making your wait time feel twice as long as it already is.

It’s time to have your say about the worst queue to wait in at the Walt Disney World Resort and why you dislike it so much. Hold off on spilling the beans about the best queue; come back and visit us tomorrow to see what Disney fans think of that one! I’ll give you my answer first, and you can let me know if you agree or disagree.

For me, there is a clear winner, and it is, hands down, the Astro Orbiter in Magic Kingdom and Disneyland park. You’ll be crammed in, outside with little-to-no shade and absolutely nothing to keep you occupied. Sometimes I avoid this ride altogether because of the queuing area alone! I will give it props in Magic Kingdom for having an elevated boarding area; this saves you from the embarrassment of a thousand people watching you try to get in and out of that little rocket. A close second is the Tower of Terror, specifically when you have to queue outside, though as the interior is so cool, it gets a pass.

What’s the Worst Queue to Wait in at Walt Disney World?
