Disneyland Cast Members Got an Exclusive Preview of Magic Happens Earlier This Week

Sadly, the planned return of the Magic Happens parade to Disneyland yesterday didn’t quite go as planned, with both performances being canceled due to inclement weather. However, this past Wednesday evening, cast members were able to enjoy a preview performance after the park closed for the day. What’s Happening: Just after the clock struck midnight earlier this […]

More Holes Cut Into Façade, Queue Lights Removed as Splash Mountain is Transformed Into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure

At Magic Kingdom, more holes have been cut into the façade of Splash Mountain next to the flume at the bottom of the ride’s drop as it is turned into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.

Splash Mountain Flume

This is where we have been able to see the most construction activity, including work inside the tunnels under the Frontierland bridge.

A black tarp in a frame is up in front of the track going through this tunnel.

Another black tarp covers some of the holes that were already cut into the rockwork.

One crew member was working in the tunnel during our most recent trip. There is scaffolding inside the tunnels.

Another hole was cut into the rockwork façade of the second bridge tunnel a week ago.

Scaffolding and blue scrim rises up to the top of Splash Mountain now, although we have not seen as much activity on the actual mountain.

From the bridge, we took a look down at the track coming out of the tunnel, hidden by the black scrim from the other angle. Here, we can see where more of the rock has been ripped away.

A ladder sits in the track and a wooden crate is on the walkway next to it.

Splash Mountain Queue

As we reported yesterday, more Splash Mountain signage has been removed. The Lightning Lane sign still features the Splash Mountain logo, however.

From the Walt Disney World Railroad station, we can see that electrical work is being done on the Lightning Lane panel.

splash mountain tianas construction feb 2023 5566

The wiring is usually hidden in this crate. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is expected to have Lightning Lane, so this is likely just regular updating or maintenance rather than removal.

We recently saw crew members sweeping the queue sidewalks, maybe before it receives new pavement.

Lighting fixtures have been removed from the wall of the ride queue opposite the Walt Disney World Railroad station.

There are three square holes in the wooden planks.

Inside the holes, “LIGHT” is written on small metal panels.

Scrim blocks the doorway and temporary wooden railings are around it.

Sheets of SkudoBoard, which is often used for protecting the ground from construction vehicles, is leaning against the Splash Mountain barn with wires running between them.

Mountain Construction

Though there hasn’t been as much visible activity on the mountain, we did see the birdhouses removed from the tree next to the ride track on the right side.

There is now scaffolding and scrim wrapping around the lift hill on the left.

The construction walls are decorated with Tiana’s Foods signs and Southern Dome Salt Company stamps, referencing the backstory for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. “Please Keep Dry” and “Louisiana” stamps were added later.

Splash Mountain closed permanently last month at Walt Disney World and will close at Disneyland later this year. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is set to replace the attraction in 2024. Read our complete history of Splash Mountain for a look back at the classic log flume ride.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure

Tiana's Bayou Adventure concept art

Disney says that in the upcoming attraction, guests will “join Princess Tiana and jazz-loving alligator Louis during Mardi Gras season as they prepare to host a one-of-a-kind celebration for the people of New Orleans.”

The attraction takes place after the events of “The Princess and the Frog.” Tiana’s Foods is an employee-owned community food co-op established by Tiana in 1927, following the success of her restaurant, Tiana’s Palace. The co-op is housed inside a salt mine, with growers planting crops along the old Splash Mountain waterway. Guests will ascend through a mill house built into the side of the mountain.

A Word of Warning About One Hollywood Studios Restaurant

Disney’s Hollywood Studios is home to a variety of themed restaurants. You can experience old Hollywood charm at the Hollywood Brown Derby or get a scolding from your server for not finishing your vegetables at 50’s Prime Time Cafe!

This place is a big hit!

One of the most popular dining locations in Hollywood Studios is the Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater because of its classic car tables (called automo-booths) that make it feel like you’re at a real drive-in! While there are picnic table seats as well, most guests are coming to this spot to enjoy their meals in one of the unique automo-booths.

Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater does take Advanced Dining Reservations but these do not allow for you to select a specific seat style. Seating here is first come first serve, so even with a reservation you aren’t guaranteed a specific seat. We recently got a pop-up notification on the My Disney Experience App stating that walk-ins will most likely be seated at a picnic table.

© Disney

Because reservations are planned in advance it is more likely that the restaurant will have space at one of the automo-booths. Most guests will request to sit at one of the booths, so when there are walk-up openings here, they’ll probably be at the picnic tables.

Sci-Fi Dine-In

If you arrive for your reservation or check for openings you can ask a Cast Member if it’s possible to be seated at an automo-booth. For those with reservations we suggest arriving around 10-15 minutes early to let them know. If there aren’t any available, you may be able to request they contact you when one does become available, but this isn’t guaranteed. The Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater can still be a fun experience even at the picnic tables, and we suggest walking around to check out their cool movie props and posters!

REVIEW: All-Star Movies Restaurant in Disney World

The All-Star Movies Resort isn’t particularly known for their food.

A full spread

Most guests are staying there for its lower pricing and fun theming for the whole family. But while there are plenty of great dining options in the parks, there are times when it’s easier to eat at your resort.

That’s why it’s good to know which dishes you’ll want to try. If you’re staying at All-Star Movies and are just looking for a casual meal after a long day in the parks, you may want to stop by the World Premier Food Court.

World Premiere Food Court

Here you’ll find different counters themed after movie theaters, serving up a variety of foods. We liked the decor, which featured tons of movie posters.

World Premiere Food Court

World Premiere is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You can pick from either indoor or outdoor seating, and they have both regular tables, booths, and shared seating. We did notice that it could use more seating, especially booths, and the outdoor seating area was limited.

A pin-trading board a World Premiere Food Court

When you’re ready to order, just head over to the counter of your choosing to order, then you’ll receive your food on a tray and you can pick where you sit.

Lyric

The World Premiere Food Court has reusable menus, as well as screens at each counter showing what they offer.

Not for the vegetarians!

We got a few items from Lyric, which even offers some plant-based options. Prices here range from $10-$17 for the entrees, and you can get sides for about $4.50 each.

Some plant-based options

We tried the Sesame Chicken Stir Fry and Walt Disney’s Favorite Chili, which comes in a bread bowl. The stir fry comes with chicken, broccoli, red peppers, and onions and is served on a bed of Jasmine rice for $11.99. The chili bowl is fairly simple; it is a meat and bean chili topped with cheddar cheese and served in a bread boule. This dish is $9.99, making these excellent picks for those on a budget. For something sweet we grabbed the Box Office Cupcake for $5.49, which is made up of a traditional yellow cake filled with caramel and topped with marshmallow buttercream and peanut-pretzel-popcorn brittle.

Let’s try them out!

The chili bowl came in a bread bowl made to look like Mickey, which we thought was a nice touch. We thought the chili itself was seasoned well and reminded us of the flavors you’d enjoy in a taco. The melted cheese on top just added to the heartiness of the meal. Unfortunately, the bread was very dry. Even the chili didn’t really help!

Walt’s Chili

Unlike the chili, the sesame chicken was very light. It was still a good serving but the fresh ingredients made it less heavy, and it’s a good option for when you’re craving some veggies after filling up on theme park food. However, the sesame sauce was minimal, and we thought this dish was pretty bland and under-seasoned. If you can’t handle spices, this could be a nice dish for you, but if you’re expecting an Asian dish with some zing, this isn’t it.

Sesame Chicken

The star of the show was definitely the Box Office Cupcake! Every single part of this was wonderful: the marshmallow frosting was light and fluffy, the caramel filling was rich, and the cake wasn’t dry at all.

Box Office Cupcake

Our only warning is this treat is VERY sweet. You might want to split this with someone else, because even though it’s small, the flavors make a big impact.

Wow!

Overall, we thought the World Premiere Food Court was a decent place to eat. The food isn’t anything adventurous, but if you’re traveling with a picky eater or need to please a large group of people, you’re sure to find what you need here. When we went, the dining room was practically empty, and it was nice to enjoy some quiet time. For those who prefer more upscale dining, you probably want to skip this food court, but after a long day in the parks when you just need something to fill your tummy before bed, this might just hit the spot!

Let’s Watch ‘Tangled: The Musical’ from Disney Cruise Line

It’s time to set the family up for your Saturday movie night. This week, we are watching Tangled: The Musical from Disney Cruise Line. Now, we usually would feature our DCL content over on our sister website, DCLFan.com; however, as this is a feature of our Weekend Disney Fun series, we are sharing over here on the DIS! If your family has ever seen the animated film Tangled (2010), they will love this broadway-style live musical adaption introduced to Disney Cruise Line in 2015.

Grab your Rapunzel Popcorn (recipe below) and settle in for a magical night where you and your loved ones are invited into the DCL theatre for an inspired performance of this Disney story.

Rapunzel’s Purple Popcorn – A Disney Recipe

Prep Time 20 min | Cook Time 10 min | Serves 10

Ingredients

  • 1 package of popcorn
  • 6-7 ounces (1 bag) purple candy melts (found at craft stores)
  • Yellow sprinkles of your choice
  • Cookie Sheet
  • Cast iron skillet or pan like Rapunzel’s

Directions

  1. Pop the popcorn in the microwave according to the package directions. Once it is cooled, place into a large mixing bowl.
  2. Place purple candy melts into a microwavable bowl and microwave for 45 seconds to 1 minute or until fully melted. Caution the candy melt will be very hot.
  3. Pour the melted candy melt over the popcorn and mix thoroughly with a wooden spoon.
  4. While the popcorn and candy melt mixture is still warm, sprinkle with sprinkles.
  5. Spread the party popcorn mixture on a cookie sheet and let cool.
  6. Serve in a cast iron skillet or frying pan like Rapunzel’s for a great Tangled movie night snack.
