This is not when magic happens, it seems. Nearly three years since its initial two-week run began at Disneyland only to be cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic, “Magic Happens” is suffering a bit of bad luck as its initial return performance has been cancelled due to bad weather in the Los Angeles area.
Notifications were sent out to Disneyland Park guests today through the Disneyland app with the heading “Pardon the Inconvenience” moments ago. This was followed by “We apologize: Due to weather conditions, the “Magic Happens” Parade performances at Disneyland Park have been cancelled.”
The Weather Channel forecasts that in the Anaheim area it will rain all day today, and winds are gusting in excess of 20mph, an unsafe level for the parade even without the rain. The rain is set to continue tomorrow, although winds will be at a much more manageable 8mph most of the day.
While a Cast Member preview did take place on Wednesday evening, this was to be the first public performance of the parade since March 12, 2020 when the resort paused live entertainment before shuttering due the COVID-19 pandemic, a mere 15 days after its first performance on February 27, 2020.
The return of “Magic Happens” has been highly anticipated by fans, and was finally announced at D23 Expo 2022 last year after a year of speculation on its return.
“Magic Happens” features stunning floats with Disney characters, imaginative (and extremely catchy) music co-composed by singer-songwriter Todrick Hall, artistic costumes, and modern choreography. The parade is unique in that it’s able to run both during the day and at night thanks to lighting on the floats. Plenty of properties are represented in the parade, including “Moana,” “Coco,” “Frozen,” and “The Sword in the Stone.”
You can watch the daytime version of the parade above.
