Senator Bernie Sanders Urges Disney to Pay Cast Members $18 Per Hour

Amidst the battle between Disney and Cast Members to receive fair pay, Senator Bernie Sanders chimed in today urging Disney to pay it’s workers a living wage.

Sanders took to Twitter to call out the fact that Disney gave a “$20 million golden parachute” to former CEO Bob Chapek and points out that Cast Members are “struggling to pay the rent & groceries”.

Earlier this month, 96% of 14,263 ballots cast by Cast Members voted to reject Disney’s “best and final offer” of $16 per hour now and $1 per hour increases over the next five years leading to $20 per hour. Cast Members represented by local unions say they need an increase from $15 to $18 per hour immediately, with further plans to raise wages to $20 per hour minimum guaranteed.

Cast Members protested in November against Disney’s reluctance to raise wages amid inflation concerns and the rise on cost of living in the Orlando area with signs that read “Full-time can’t buy diapers!” and “Full-time can’t buy formula!” among others. Cast Members asking for a larger, more immediate raise also cite financial distress that won’t be solved by long-term incremental increases.

You can check out our thoughts on the situation in the video below.

Express Pass and Entrance Signs Added to Villain-Con Minion Blast in Universal Studios Florida

More signage has been added to the entrance of Villain-Con Minion Blast, a new attraction replacing Shrek 4-D at Universal Studios Florida.

Production Central at Universal Studios Florida will become Illumination Avenue with the opening of Villain-Con Minion Blast and Minion Café.

A sign for Universal Express Pass and an “attraction entrance” sign have been installed on the sides of the entrance archway.

The yellow Universal Express Pass logo peeks over the construction walls.

The other sign is presumably for the standby entrance.

The show building has been painted and repainted until the old lettering for “Soundstage 4-D” was no longer visible and there are no weird faded rectangles.

It’s finally looking nice and ready for new billboards or signs.

minion usf construction feb 2023 4772

The painting extended around the sides, too, where some flat squares remain for future signs.

minion usf construction feb 2023 4774

The painting on this side isn’t complete, as some splotches are still visible near the roof overhang and on the darker red sections.

There are also a few dark splotches near the top of the building. Lights are covered in plastic wrap to keep them protected during painting.

Next door, Monsters Cafe is becoming Minion Cafe. Blue scrim covers some of the scaffolding at the corner of the building.

There are intense steel frames around the building, apparently to create new walls and a new marquee at the entrance.

We could see construction notes on one steel post.

Though Illumination Avenue seems heavily Minion-based right now, it will have “other surprises inspired by popular characters from Illumination’s blockbuster franchises.”

The new land is scheduled to open this summer but an opening date has not been announced.

Minion Cafe opened in early 2021 at Universal Studios Hollywood, and the Happiness Cafe at Universal Studios Japan serves Minion-themed food as part of the Minion Park area at the park. Minion Park is currently being cloned for Universal Studios Singapore with a 2024 projected open.

Dangerous TikTok Trend Inspires New Warning Signage on Guardians of the Galaxy — Mission: BREAKOUT! at Disney California Adventure

New warning signage has been installed at the load area for Guardians of the Galaxy — Mission: BREAKOUT! at Disney California Adventure to combat a new TikTok trend which flouts safety rules in favor of extra thrill.

Guardians Mission Breakout Sign

The new signage was installed today, and is prompted by a recent TikTok trend encouraging riders to improperly secure their seatbelts, according to the Orange County Register.

A diagram of the seatbelt sits at the center of the sign, which reads “Keep seat belt securely fastened and tight against the waist. Failure to follow instructions may result in being asked to leave the park.”

It’s extremely dangerous to not secure your restraint on any attraction, and it puts both your life and those of your fellow riders at risk, particularly on thrill rides like this. Always follow the instructions of Cast Members and warning signage at attractions.

This of course isn’t the first incidents we’ve seen as a result of the popular short-form video app. Earlier this month we spotted guests chowing down on bread bowls on Incredicoaster and drinking Splash Mountain water, last month a guest on TikTok snuck a firework into Disneyland for her birthday, and even at Walt Disney World a woman was spotted flashing her breasts at guests on the Disney Skyliner for TikTok.

Guardians of the Galaxy — Mission: BREAKOUT! opened in 2017 as an overhaul of The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror drop tower attraction, based on the popular Marvel franchise. Guests fall more than thirteen stories and experience moments of weightlessness while trying to break the Guardians of the Galaxy out of an eccentric collector’s museum/prison to the tune of classic ’70s and ’80s hits.

Is Disney’s Festive Mickey Beignet Worth It? We Found Out

It’s time to celebrate Mardi Gras!

Let’s Celebrate!

At Disney World, THE place to be for these celebrations is Port Orleans Resort! Guests can take part in themed activities at the resorts (like checking out a super unique parade), listen to exciting jazz music, and even enjoy tasty treats. If you don’t know that these celebrations are going on, you might have totally missed them — they’re a bit of a secret! But now that you’re “in the know,” join us as we check out 2 of the treats available there and see if either is worth your cash.

First up, we just had to grab a King Cake — a true Mardi Gras staple — at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort — French Quarter.

King Cake

It was available at a pop-up bar/snack spot at the Resort, along with some other goodies. (Note that the King Cake is also listed on the menu for Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory so you can find it there as well. We’ve spotted these on the menu there in years past, so they aren’t particularly new, but still festive for the occasion!)

Snacks

The mini King Cake is a cake with festive yellow, purple, and green icing and sprinkles. They are available for $5.29 each.

Lots of icing!

We thought the flavors in this were great. We could taste the cinnamon, which really elevated this from just a normal bundt cake. Essentially it captured the flavors of a cinnamon roll in the flavors of a mini bundt cake. The icing added some extra sugar (in a good way) and the sugary sprinkles were a nice touch.

Unfortunately, though, the cake was VERY dry. Thankfully it was small, but the fun flavors couldn’t save the dryness. If you absolutely LOVE cinnamon, you might enjoy this but the dryness could ruin it for you.

Unfortunately, it was pretty dry

You might want to pair this with a beverage to make it a bit better. Truthfully though, we think there is a better alternative here — the Tiana milkshake at Hollywood Scoops (in Disney’s Hollywood Studios) which comes with a King Cake Cupcake of its own. We much preferred that treat to this King Cake at French Quarter, so consider stopping by Hollywood Scoops during your next trip to try that instead (it’ll be available through the end of March).

Tiana Mardi Gras Milkshake

But, we couldn’t leave French Quarter without grabbing a beignet. Scat Cat’s Club Cafe had special Mickey Beignets with Mardi Gras sprinkles on top with a generous amount of icing. Each one is $3.99.

Mardi Gras Mickey Beignet

We got ours fresh so it was piping hot (yum!). The fried dough was wonderfully pillowy. Basically, it captured that nice, hot, and doughy beignet but instead of powdered sugar, there was some icing. The sprinkles added a nice crunch to this soft treat and were a fun decorative element.

The beignet was MUCH better than the King Cake, plus it was cheaper! We might still give the classic beignets with powdered sugar a slight edge over these, but these were still tasty. They’re also very festive and would make for a great Instagram picture!

So Instagrammable!

Overall, it’s a good pick for those who love beignets, sprinkles, and icing. But be warned that it can get a little messy, so pick up some napkins!

Fluffy!

What do you think about these treats? Would you make a trip over to French Quarter on Mardi Gras just to try them? Did you even know Mardi Gras celebrations take place over there? Tell us in the comments! It’s a good reminder to look around you for hidden items because you never know what you might find!

Stay tuned for more Disney news.

RUMOR: Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon to Reopen in March 2023, Both Water Parks to Remain Open

Earlier today, we received the grand news that Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon water park at Walt Disney World will reopen this spring following an annual winter refurbishment which commenced in November. We now believe that the park will reopen sooner than you might think!

Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Water Park

Sources indicate that Typhoon Lagoon will reopen to guests in March 2023, representing a rather quick turnaround from Disney’s announcement today. Additionally, for the first time since the COVID-19 closure, it seems both Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon will be operating at the same time!

Typhoon Lagoon first reopened on January 2, 2022 for the first time since March 2020, replacing Blizzard Beach which was the first to reopen to guests in March 2021. Until now, the two parks have switched out with each other, never operating at the same time. Typhoon Lagoon most recently closed in November for its annual maintenance, which is traditionally performed in the colder winter months.

Are you excited to choose between Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach again? Let us know in the comments below!
